Wow, so much to catch up on. I was sure I would have more time to be here during my summer vacation from school. Instead, I filled my time with babysitting my little nephew, visiting my grandma at the nursing home (who was hospitalized recently with a dangerously low blood glucose level and UTI), and taking care of my acutely sick mother-in-law. I've also tried to do some studying and math practice tests before school starts in just a few short weeks. A good friend of my parents just died of leukemia AND other cancers. She fought bravely throughout her decade of illness. I just saw her at my parents' home a few weeks ago for a party and she looked radiant and happy, in spite of everything. I am amazed by her courage and positive attitude with everything she was going through. The cat my daughter was going to adopt has been diagnosed with FIV and that just breaks our hearts. Then my daughter had her car broken into a couple of nights ago while she was at work, and had her purse stolen. Thankfully the purse was found with her ID, just the money and some pictures were missing. My brother and I got some plexiglass, cut it to fit her missing window, and duct taped it in until she can get it professionally fixed. Sheeeeeeyiiiiiikes. My brother did most of the work and I am very grateful. I hope things calm down before I start school! My husband has been off work on family leave to care for his mother, and I've been there right with him helping her with basic activities of daily living. She seems to be getting better now. I haven't had much sleep between being with her in the hospital and staying days & nights at her apartment once she went home. She doesn't believe she was as sick as she was diagnosed to be, or that she could have died. She was suffering from acute kidney failure, severe dehydration, dangerously low blood pressure, sepsis, and pneumonia all at once. Unbelievable that she does not believe she was even sick! Her 80th birthday is Monday. We will have to watch her much more closely now than ever before -- and we were regularly visiting her 3-4 x a week or more before all of this happened! Different living arrangements may have to be made if she slides back into this situation again. She may never be able to live alone again...we'll have to see. I'm a bit tired but otherwise OK. I'm doing well on my math practice tests. This weekend I will be in Frankenmuth, MI for a nursing student association retreat. Much needed!!!! My brother-in-law will stay with his mom so we can go away. It's also our wedding anniversary. I feel like I've been spinning in circles! We need this trip very badly.
