Majestic 181

I was wanting to get some money and some space made up, but since no-one was wanting to part with any money I had to do a major trade to make some space instead. Basically I traded off my battered, finish-less Zenith Robo, my Keil radio table, and my Zenith 34p for this:

A fully functional Majestic 181 console with two good globe 50's for outputs. My buddy who I got it from thought it worth $1000, but I am not sure. Of course I don't think my battered robo I shelled out $400 was worth as much as I paid either and the Zenith 10-S-599 kinda bumped it out by being a good overall performer. Along with my Victor RE-45, this is the second TRF I have had that doesn't need a mile of antenna to just get a faint station! The Majestic does fairly well, especially at the upper end of the dial. I swapped the like-new 27's and 81's out of the 34P into this radio before letting it go and the Majestic performs even better with those tubes in it. As far as who came out on top of the deal, I don't know. Money-wise, there's probably $500 in the two 50 tubes alone in this set. Also, this is the first Majestic I have had that I actually like! Of course it's a heavy mother! About threw my back out even with help getting it up the steps!
On the other radio end, the Keil table might be coming back my way someday. Also, I haven't given up on Zenith Robot Dial sets. One set I'd really like is the 15 tube model they made in 1939. My buddy and I call it the 'Curly' radio. There is a Three Stooges Short where Curly climbs into one of these sets and starts annoucing like a radio announcer. It has the shutter dial, an improved motor tuner, radio organ, and push-button tuning! I got to see one in action and it actually was even better sounding and more controllable than the 1938 15 tube model another friend of mine has. :)
