Why you shouldn't invest in stuff you know nothing about.

Nov 27, 2008 09:34

So, Kathy and Eric have thrown in the towel at Insiminator, which is news to everyone including their staff, who learn about it when the new owner, a guy called Walt, posts, explaining the change.

The InSimmers, are naturally interested, and reasonably welcoming, if bewildered. Someone says "Hey Walt, do we know you? Do we like you?"

Walt's response rings alarm bells for some, and triggers enormous snorts of coffee out the nose for others:

"As for who I am...I'm not a gamer. I'm an online marketing and web development guy. I bought this site because I think it's really a terrific community. I knew that Kathy and Eric needed to make a change, and it seemed like a reasonably good investment. I'm a little concerned about the current economy, and keeping this site going is quite expensive, so that's why I'm focusing a lot of attention on doing the donation drive and discussing the ad-free subscription idea."
AHAHAHAHAHA. Srsly? He bought the site as a money making venture? Did this dude do NO research? Delphy kindly points out that Walt may have accidentally bough a hornets' nest and then kicked it open.

And then the pirates weigh in, alerted by the suggestion of "mandatory subscriptions". You know the guy's in deep shit when he gets such assorted characters as Delphy, Pescado and PottyMouth Paden on the same side.

The whole thread is enormous lulz.

Walt posts in lots of colours to try to get people excited about donating. This do not seem to work.

Walt does some desperate backpedalling
, and yells that people will be sorry for saying mean things. You know, he really didn't do ANY research at all before he dove right in and bought this community, did he?

ENJOY.

Summary, courtesy of Khan of Wyrms:
Walt:  O, Hai! I M biznes man can haz cash cow now pleez, and M bringing 4 2 U souprize buttsecks.
Condensed Replies:  We don't like surprise buttsex, Walt.  Do we know you?
(Also, Pirate Cat, Huzzah!)
Edited to add: Under Walt's fabulous new management, the servar seems to be grinding to a halt. If you get a "servar too busy" message when you try to read, just keep trying.

Another little tidbit: Over at PMBD, PottyMouth posts the PM she got from Walt.
