Weekly Challenge - Week of April 18, 2011

Vacation - Cheerful - Jumbok IV

This challenge uses a three 'word' prompt that participants are encouraged to take in whatever direction their imagination wants to go. The first word represents an event or situation, the second an emotion, while the third is something pulled from the game. Don't let this limit you in how you interpret the words, though. Let your imagination run wild. Original sims, Legacy sims, Maxis sims, whatever you want to do is welcome. As another note, keep in mind if you need to explain what your scene is about for people to get it, it probably isn't working.

This is NOT a competition. There are no winners or losers. This is a chance for anyone who wants to stretch their staging capabilities and try out some different scenes. It's meant to be a fun, creative exercise.

NOTE: If you would like constructive criticism on your response, please feel free to ask when you post. Members of the community are more than willing to offer feedback on your response if you would like to improve your skills with setting up and shooting scenes. Conversely, remember when giving advice to be constructive and avoid being rude.

Here are the few challenge rules we've come up with:

1. Maximum of 10 Pictures - Yes, I know it's tough, but the idea is to get the story of the scene across with a limited number of images and no words.

2. Use At Least Two of the Prompt Words - While we'd prefer you use all three, imagination is a fickle thing and if your idea can only work in two of the words, that's fine. But we at least want to see two of them.

3. Any Version of Sims is Welcome - Most responses are going to be using Sims2, but you are welcome to use any version of the game you like as long as you're creating a scene using the prompt words. OG Sims, Castaways, Life Stories, Sims3, whatever you want.

4. Pictures Only - This is an exercise in storytelling through images. Try and convey what's happening without falling back on words to carry the action. You're welcome to include some text at the end to explain what you were going for, but let the pictures speak for themselves.

5. Post In Your LJ - Because pictures can be rather large, we're asking people to post their responses in their own LJ accounts and provide a link back here as a reply to this thread. Also, please do not friends lock your response.

6. Provide a Warning for Mature Images - If the scene you've put together would require an R rating or would be considered NSFW (not safe for work), please put a warning with your link so people are aware of what they're going to be seeing.

At the end of the week (usually on Monday) we'll gather all the links to the responses and post them in an end-of-the-week post to show them off for everyone to see.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. We're open to suggestions on how to improve and make this even more fun for everyone involved.

I'm sorry we've been late the last few weeks, Real Life has been hectic.
