I'm watching a film that ostensibly takes place in 1970s and 1980s England, but an England in which clones are created and raised in a traditional boardingschool as eventual organ donors. It is a strangely nostalgic science fiction film, as though it were made decades ago with modern filmmaking techniques.
It's a beautiful film - this is astory about love and dignity, not an action flick likeThe Island. It is terribly, terribly sad. You know the intended fate of these cloned people as they are still children - indeed, they know it - but they talk around it with very English euphemisms, an English quiet desperation, and eventually resignation in the face of inevitable loss.
Keira Knightley's character in this film who looks remarkably like someone I know. It was hard to watch her.
