Akasha: What you did was out of order?
Neo: I bring order out of chaos. The humans are running scared. They are ready to be taken down.
Nebleb: They have not all failed our interventions.
Neo: Just because Buzz thinks with other parts of his anatomy instead of his brain does not mean he’s a success story.
Nebleb: The President knows the truth. He’s stopped all his covert plans. He was lusting for power, his major problem and he’s willing to step down as General to have a life with Ophelia. Themis and I have allowed trouble to rear its head and he’s staying the course.
Neo: Would you stand before the Council on his behalf? If they pass judgment, will you take his punishment?
Nebleb got up from the table and stomped out of the room. Soon after, they all finished their meals and headed toward the living room. Everyone except Neo expected tonight’s meeting would be intense.
Themis: Even if none of our humans learn their lessons, we can’t disobey the Council and try to kill them now. What you did to Kristen was uncalled for. We were given until December.
Neo: Is it not October? Are you telling me that in the next two and a half months you expect them all to be worth saving? Kristen knows the true identity of us all.
Min: How do you know that?
Neo: I’ve seen it.
Min: What do you mean?
Volf: He’s experienced her powers and he sees into her dreams.
Neo scowled at them. How could he forget that some of them could practically read his mind?
Neo: Does it matter what I’ve done. You all want to roast marshmallows with the humans.
Akasha: I think I speak for everyone by saying that we are dedicated to the mission.
Neo: I questioned your dedication when you were sleeping with Vidcund’s brother, something I hope for you sake has ceased.
Akasha flushed and sat down.
Neo: Is it guilt that’s stopping you all from wanting to act now? If we all were ruled by guilt, the galaxy would be filled with people too afraid to step on each other’s toes. If you think you’ve gained close friends in these humans, reveal your true mission and see if that “friendship” lasts.
Min: Kristen knows and could tell them. That would endanger us all.
Akasha: She is on a mission to keep the 7 safe. She knows the truth and she is a danger to this mission but I would rather she be a danger than act too quickly.
Vlad: Whatever we decide, be assured Neo that we are not afraid. We want to make sure we’re following orders in the prescribed time frame set by the Planetary Council. We can’t disobey them. If we do, our home planets could be in danger.
Neo: Whine, whine, whine. You are assassins! Beings with no conscience, no fear, no remorse, no guilt, or no failures!
Volf: I’ve never had to immerse myself in the lives of people I’ve been hired to kill.
Neo: I hand picked you all. I didn’t realize you needed emotion chips to ensure you’d fulfill your duties.
Min: We need to reassess the ability of these humans to change. If some of them change and some don’t then they all don’t deserve to die. Maybe we should clarify our mission again with the Council.
Neo: Do I smell mutiny?
Akasha: We will do what is necessary when the time comes, Neo. We are bound to these humans. Failure means we are at risk of dying. This team will complete its mission successfully.
Neo: Thank you Akasha. Now that’s the backbone of the second in command. Meeting adjourned.
Neo laughed as if he’d just told a brilliant joke while Nebleb, Themis, and Volf walked out. Hela fell into step with them and they stood in the front yard hoping to have a quick talk alone. Neo walked past with Akasha and the two Hela clone guards. Nebleb held up her hands to silence everyone until she was sure Neo was out of sight.
Nebleb: Hela, are you sure we can trust PT?
Hela: He has a plan and it can work. We have to ensure Neo doesn’t do anything else crazy. There is corruption in the Council that we also have to address and that’s something he’s helping with. .
Volf: I agree, I think we can trust PT. He knew what I was when I first starting seeing Jill. He’s a man of his word.
Themis: If he can help with the Council, then I’m all for trusting him.
Nebleb: You two know the risk involved if Neo ever revealed your relationship to the Council. Don’t forget the rules, alien race mixing is forbidden.
Themis: I’ve told him that.
Volf: I don’t care. You’re going to be my wife one day.
Themis: What makes you think I’ll accept your proposal?
Volf: Have you ever been able to resist me?
Themis rolled her eyes but accepted a quick hug from Volf.
Volf: We’re all for tempting fate.
Hela: I wouldn’t. The punishment is a torture worse than death. Imagine having to live your life seeing the one you loved almost daily, but that person didn’t remember your life together. All of their memories wiped and you can’t tell them. If you do, you’ll die.
Themis: I’ve heard that they’ve done that. Is it really true?
Hela: It’s happening to me. The man I love doesn’t remember me. I see him occasionally and there is no recognition, no memory. That’s why I was cloned. They ensure I never reveal the truth. If I do, they will kill me. Look, let’s go before Mira comes out wondering why we’re still hanging around.
Hela looked back at the house quickly, remembering the past.
Hela: Oh, PT. Please let this work.
