Given: Sucks to loose your PC. You tend to grow attached to them over the years.
However after reading the reasoning behind the Adjudication on the Valor boards, I don't understand. It would only qualify as a plot directed action if the Character had no choice, or choice was taken away from him at some point during the plot line. Acting as your character would act isn't "plot directed". This guy had the choice to volunteer, he made the choice to volunteer knowing full well what the solutions to the problem he was volunteering for.
There are multiple things my PC would be perfectly willing to take a death for, and I, as the player, will step forward and do it (if/when the choice presents itself), knowing full well that plot isn't going to give me a free pass. If I have my choice, I'd much rather my PC's final death come from a big role play opportunity in which I get to go out holding to my characters morals, and quite possibly helping my friends, that because I was an idiot and was wandering around, at night, outside, by myself, where no one will find me. Isn't the glorious sacrifice the best way to go out?
