Thank you so much! ♥ ♥ (I'm not going to stop with S/E any time soon, I promise.)
I loved this- because I think it's something we're still owed- computers should act most efficiently, humans should aim a bit higher. *nods* Absolutely. I love that Eduardo is still angry in the depositions, this small burning indignation, because I want the Eduardo that I love to never stop being a little angry, to never accept that it was okay. To never accept that signing that contract was a bad business decision -- because it never, ever should have been. Because a company doing that to an employee, executive officer or no, is fucking unacceptable. Though I do love matured, slightly embittered and jaded Eduardo... I never want him to lose that edge of goodness, that guy who thought that maybe FaceMash was a bad idea, who assumed that Mark had apologized to Erica, who wanted to know the age of the girls in the house, who thought Mark meant "I need & miss my best friend" when Mark said, "I need my CFO," even if Mark really meant, "I need you to be emotionally vulnerable when you fly out so that I can screw you out of the company."
That's what I was trying to do in this story... Taking a Mark who thinks he's better than everyone and is exempt because of it, deserves more because of it, and then Mark realizing that he's just been using these justifications as a smoke screen... realizing that if he truly needs Eduardo and loves Eduardo for who Eduardo is, then the kind of better person he has to be to keep Eduardo is a person who isn't exempt from human & social contract expectations. That "sorry" doesn't cut it. Especially if you're still being rewarded for those actions. (of course, he could have just quit FB and given Dustin & Chris his shares, but that wouldn't be a graaaand romance gesture. lol.)
