Despite having withdrawn from my French literature exam yesterday, I don't despise French - per se. I am rubbish at speaking the language because it just doesn't roll off my tongue the way it should.
But I quite like it. It sounds magical, most of the time, and it's easy enough to understand because the words usually look like they sprout from ancient Italian and/or Latin (which I'm better at).
So, in order to improve my French... I started reading everything Potter in French! Not the books, mind you, because that would require buying them here in Italy while I firmly believe foreign books should be bought in their country of origin. It's incredibly funny to note that they translated Hogwarts, and quite literally at that! Poudlard! XD
And seeing as I couldn't go halfway about this, I got creative and I am imagining (and writing) the French version of Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade (respectively, le Chemin de Traverse and Pré-au-Lard). I am having a hard time placing the actual school though... France has no Scotland - or Écosse, and the southern regions look very much populated and industrialised.
I am thinking something good'll come out of this. ^_^
(PS. some of my welcome letters have arrived!!)
