A little gambling is fun when you're with me

Relaxing is way harder than I imagined. I actually managed to freak out that I wasn't relaxing well enough. Note to Education departments in the Western world: this is what exams do to teens who should be enjoying their youth. EDUCATION IS GREAT, EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR EDUCATION, but something is seriously wrong when millions of teens are having break downs or tearing themselves up over THEIR EXAM RESULTS, which apart from making loads of teens miserable (and IMO more likely to binge drink) but stops a lot from contributing to society. Teens are either sitting inside revising/going crazy when exams are all over. Instead of, you know, volunteering at homeless shelters.

I rewatched The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances yesterday. Despite the embarassing characterisation of Rose at points (go fuck off and die Moffatt) I still absolutely adore these two eps. The "dancing" scene seems dirtier everytime I rewatch it as I get older. I also love love love the subtleties of CE's acting - I miss him even more after years of JOKEY GEEKY DOCTOR - especially riiiight at the end of TDD, just before the credits where he shoots Jack this look over Rose's shoulder like, HAHA CAP'N SHE WANTS ME, HANDS OFF. I really need a decent icon of it:

My friend Becky and I were discussing the awesomeness of British humour/TV when compared to the US. I came up with the genius idea that we should definitely have a British, satirical version of Glee. Not like, a lame comedy rip-off sketch, but Glee sans American HEY GUYS IT'S SO SUNNY ISN'T LIFE GREAT? annoying over-enthusiasm and upping the deadpan-o-meter. What I love about Glee is actually how unendingly positive it is, but I would soooo love to see a really well-done British deadpan mockery of it. Because there is nothing like British humour.

Aforementioned Becky saw this epic lady at Lattitude. She raps absolutely hilariously about being middle-class.

I have actually started to get into (good) rap. I really love Sage Francis' The Best of Times which is beautifully produced and tells a story.

I saw one of my last.fm fans had the tag "underground hip-hop" on his page, citing Aesop and Atmosphere, 2 of the new artists I've been listening to, as examples, and I thought, "ooh, I'm listening to underground hip-hop? I am COOL," and went over to have a nose. When I was younger I was obsessed with the whole hip-hop scene, but growing up in a white middle-class suburb kinda limited me to wandering around in bomber jackets with huge hoods and wearing massive hoop earings, and my obsession couldn't be maintained against the BARRAGE OF WHITE MIDDLE-CLASS CULTURE, so soon died. It's hard to feel gangsta wandering into Starbucks with your mum to have lunch. Anyway, what I actually loved about this music was the truth of it; people singing or rapping about the gritty reality of life which I am often so separated from. So the idea of listening to anything vaguely related to anything underground is awesome. I stumbled across this, though, which is so ironic and kinda incongruous it made me laugh:

Maybe not so underground after all.

And finally, this is hilarious:
