I really do love Britain

May 07, 2010 23:20

THIS ELECTION IS SO EXCITING! I've loved the past day, and I've become thoroughly, thoroughly addicted to BBC News. We watched it during French, which included the official declaration of a Hung Parliament:

(You can't really see it, but it does say Breaking News on the banner)

I'm rather upbeat about the hung parliament, as:

1. I love anything dramatic and out of the ordinary
2. I want electoral reform, and this is the only way we have a hope of getting it
3. I really love Leggy Cleggy, and he has quite an influence now

My mother, who is v.unhappy with the situation, was really pissy at me this morning, as if because I voted Lib Dem I am PERSONALLY responsible for the hung parliament.

isil_helyanwe made me laugh a lot with this:

the problem is that the UK has an unwritten constitution, so there are no official protocols for anything, just 'what we've always done in the past'.

THAT is what I love about Britain, the fact that we do so much based on tradition and as soon as anything goes a bit tits up we PANIC OMG GUYYYS (see any newspaper).

I'd just like to take a moment to say CONGRATS TO CAROLINE LUCAS! FIRST GREEN MP!! YAAAAY!

She looks very happy about it too:

I have just discovered the joy of Amanda Jenssen who I LOVE SO MUCH aftwer only 3 songs. You will like her also if you enjoy:

A Fine Frenzy
Regina Spektor
Sweeping violins
Acoustic Guitar
Music

So I try to say that I'm sorry
And I try to do no harm
And I lied when I said I was Happy
If you love me
please, let me go

WIIIIN

I don't know if anyone's visited the Google home page today, but if you have you'll have seen the LOVELY BALLET LOGO in honour of Tchaikovsky's 170th bday. He is one of my all time favourite people and heroes ever. I love Waltz of the Flowers more than I love eating a massive bowl of treacle pudding and custard whilst watching House, sitting in my favourite PJs and drinking diet coke. And almost more than writing.

I've had to restrain myself from posting every clip of his ballets I could find on youtube, and I've instead settled for two different but equally beautiful perfomances of Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker:

Also this, because it's just win:
