What's your SE fanbase pet peeve?

Jul 01, 2011 04:40

I was thinking this week a bit about how I've been in Soul Eater fandom for a little more than two years now.  It really has some serious staying power for me! And that's partly because I love the fandom. I don't think I could ever ragequit SE simply because talking about the series with other fans is too much fun.

But I have my pet peeves with the ( Read more... )

I have to agree with everything you just said.

Crona's ambiguity is awesome. It's rare to see a character like Crona, and the way Ohkubo has poked fun at us by making Ragnarok yank up Crona's skirt/dress/thing on several occasions and still not revealing anything is genius. It keeps fans coming back. FUNamation could have written the dub a little better and omitted using the 'he/him', but in a way I have to agree with them, it is just a little bit easier to deal with, and it's not uncommon for authors to use 'he' even when describing a gender neutral character. As for the fan bickering....it's everywhere and for everything....we can just walk away and do something more constructive.

It does kinda suck that disorders such as OCD are taken so lightly. Granted they do make for some great and humorous material, it still doesn't change the fact that these kinds of disorders do make the lives of those that have them tougher than those that don't. Although, I also have to say this: the seemingly high rate of which disorders are being diagnosed just seems a bit....dare I say overused? To me, it sometimes seems that doctors are just handing out the 'you have OCD' or 'you have ADD' just so they can answer their patients. But, aside from that, it's very true that most people with disorders prefer to keep it to themselves so they aren't treated differently.

I guess you could say that it's partly Ohkubo's fault that you never see Liz and Patty separated (except during that time on the flying dutchman) He's never given them the opportunity to be their own characters, so the much of the fanbase can't seem them as separate characters either. I myself am slightly guilty of that. While working on bits of my fic, I find myself writing a part for Liz, and then immediately thinking "Okay, so now what's Patty doing?" Granted, I do catch myself nearly every time I start thinking it, but sometimes it is a little hard to think of them as separate individuals when their always referred to being together.
As for confusing their names and such, I'll only forgive a fan for that if they've just entered into the series. Ohkubo's done quite the crazy by putting in SOOOOO many main characters so quickly, so it's not unlike someone meeting a new group of people and they can't quite remember their names and who is who right away. Other than that, yeah, it'll irk me in a bad way. Kid's guns....I don't even....

I haven't run in to many of the 'this picture isn't symmetrical' things, so...... *shrug*

Before I go on with your last peeve,(argh....I'm having a harry potter moment *knocks it away*) I'm going to have to ask....since I can't grasp if it's an acronym or not....but...what's moe stand for? *fails XD*
Unfortunately weird porno pairings are always going to be their (for everything). People are weird, hence the fanpairings will be weird, and I just leave it alone.

Lastly, that doujin is awesomesauce/hotsauce/ holy crap Liz what're you.... *Just stares and drools*

Seriously, it's fantastic, 'nuff said.

Crap long post lol XD

I tend to refer to Crona as a 'he' most of the time keeping in mind Crona's gender neutrality. But there is always the response of, "Crona is a girl, it's a fact!"
Of course I never involve myself in that fan bickering but I can't help feel annoyance when I see it.

Yup agreed! It's mostly ADD and ADHD that is overdiagnosed. OCD less so, sense the compulsions are usually very visiable and are very very disruptive to every day life.
I do have so much appreciation for how Ohkubo treat's Kid's symmetry fix as humorous and also Liz and Patty's response to it as both supportive and humorous. Humor can help an RL OCD person become detached from their obsessions/compulsions.
It's just some fans that bother me.

Yeah, I can tell when someone is just brand new to the series and can confuse names. I'll always gently correct. There's nothing wrong with always making connections between Liz and Patty but what I mean is when some people treats them as the same person, like some two-headed being..... Or just dehumanizing them all together with just "Kid's guns" ugh

Moe is japanese slang. Moe = a type of character.
Directly from wikipedia: "a rarefied pseudo-love for certain fictional characters (in anime, manga, and the like) and their related embodiments." The problem with it, is that it can be totally hollow and is full of lolicon fetishism, making sexual objects of little girls.
So many people worship it, but I find it pretty sick.

Thaaaank you very much! XDDDD I draw a lot of uke Kid considering how much I love dominant Kid.

No need to apologize, I especially like long posts!

Hehe, it's actually really easy to see Kid as uke, especially with Liz. I don't know, it's just something about him 'seeming' to be younger than Liz that makes it so easy. Not that younger necessarily means less...'experienced', but I think you get what I mean lol.
