Yet another Monday morning game with grey and gloomy weather. As she was on her way to school in the sprinkling autumn rain Taeyeon found herself wishing she had taken her umbrella when she left home that morning. Just her luck.
School was as boring as ever. Every day was the same. Only last year she had been one of the popular girls, dominating the school together with Yuri and Jessica. No she was an outcast. Ostracised by her classmates. At first it felt like her life was over, being popular was all she had ever known. By now she didn't care anymore. The bullying had subsided and she had been left alone. Before people had lined up to get her attention. Not anymore.
Her days used to be fun and full of laughter. Now she hardly ever smiled.
"Good morning everyone", the teacher walked into the classroom greeting everyone as he came in. Taeyeon was looking out the window from her desk by the back of the room. "Starting today we will have a new student in our class!"
Taeyeons eyes darted towards the newcomer.
"Hello everyone, I'm Tiffany, nice to meet you." the girl smiled shyly and bowed. Taeyeon sighed ever so slightly and turned back to the window; just another girl who would most likely be applying for her spot in the clique. Taeyeon placed her head on top of her school books and resumed into staring into nothingness.
The weeks went on. At first Tiffany had tried to be polite to Taeyeon. She greeted the her every morning as she sat to her desk between the window and Taeyeon's. When slight nods were all she got as an answer her greetings got less and less cheerful and audible.
Tiffany was happy and cheerful, but she had a bad habit of disappearing into her own world. During class she liked to stare out the window rather than concentrate on studying. It was also not uncommon that the girl would not show up for class in the middle of the day. Somehow she never got into trouble for it. All this annoyed Taeyeon.
Staring out the window was her hobby and now her view was ruined by bright eyes and cute smiles. More often than not Taeyeon would end up watching as the sun shined on Tiffany's long, wavy hair. A sudden thought would bring a smile on the girl's beautiful lips and unknowingly Taeyeon would shadow it.
Yet another Monday morning game with grey and gloomy weather. As she was on her way to school in the sprinkling autumn rain Taeyeon found herself wishing she had taken her umbrella when she left home that morning. Just her luck.
She made her way to the classroom and sat at her desk. She looked to her left but the desk next to the window was unoccupied. The weather seemed to agree with her mood as it started raining heavily. It wasn't until second hour that Tiffany would show up in class dripping water from her clothes and her long, wavy hair. All this annoyed Taeyeon.
The week went on with cloudy and rainy weather. Taeyeon learned to take her umbrella with her. She hated getting wet. Tiffany didn't seem to mind it. Taeyeon wondered if the girl even owned an umbrella.
Friday came finally. Taeyeon woke up to the sound of the rain hitting her window. She hit snooze on her alarm, the last thing she wanted to do was to get up from her warm bed.
Only a moment later Taeyeon woke up to sound of her mom knocking her door. "Are you up? I haven't seen you all morning and it's almost time for you to go to school." She must have missed the snooze button. Just her luck.
Taeyeon didn't bother to hurry too much, she was going to be late anyway. With a sigh she closed the front door behind her, opened her umbrella and stepped to the rain. She was almost at the school when she saw a familiar figure standing in the middle of the street. The girl had lifted her face up to the rain, she was smiling and her long, wavy hair was soaking wet.
She heard the approaching footsteps and turned to look at Taeyeon. She recognized her immediately and her smile reached her pretty eyes.
"Now I know why you hardly smile", she said, placed her hand on Taeyeon's and gently moved the umbrella to the side. Taeyeon blinked as the first raindrops hit her eyelashes. She didn't have time to react, to get annoyed. "Follow me." Tiffany handed her back a carefully folded umbrella, took a hold of her hand and together they started walking through the rain.
At first Taeyeon felt like she should say something, ask where they were heading. Then she wanted to be mad, she was getting all wet and her clothes were getting ruined. She thought that they should at least be having a polite conversation and she spend a good deal of time coming up with topics. She kept staring at her feet, the puddles on the ground. Every time she was about to open her mouth she didn't seem to be able to. She didn't want to ruin the mood and soon realised that the atmosphere was not awkward even if they didn't say a word. Gradually she lifted her gaze from the ground to the buildings and trees around them.
The rain kept on falling, it felt a bit cold, but it was okay since the hand holding onto hers was warm. Taeyeon started smiling and turned to the other girl. Tiffany looked at her with a warm smile. Without noticing Taeyeon started giggling, and soon they were both laughing cheerfully, softly.
"Now I know why you always smile."
