I'm BACK!!!! From Maine that it is. Even though I actually got out on the beach more this year than the last ... 4? (yay migraines...) It still felt by far the longest. I surfed (technically boogie-board since the waves only even got THAT high 2 days out of the 6), I built dribble castles, sand turtles, sand tunnels, and LOTS of canals (my favorite part), got inevitably sunburnt (can you skin cancer?) despite MANY attempts made for sunblock lotion, had my Mom (who had to do my packing thanks to being DEAD the days before) do my packing ---> LOTS of important things got left behind = shopping (but it turned out for the best), played a teeny bit of 1830, bunch of Monopoly, some Kingdom Hearts and went on a manga and Meg Cabot books spree.
The Meg Cabot I blame on Laura who bought Princess Diaries 6, and caused me to find out that I could actually read her as easily as manga with a migraine... in some cases even easier -- provided my auras weren't massively freaking out. So one bad migraine night when I couldn't handle Dad and the tv (incidentally in the room I'd be sleeping in... of course) I read her book, found out I could actually handle it; next day went out and bought Princess Diaries 7, Size 12 is Not Fat (Awesome mystery uberness btw), How to Be Popular (I still feel like I should make Hack read it) and Teen Idol for Laura's Christmas present (Borders had a buy 2 get 3rd free sale on Meg Cabot but wouldn't count Size 12 is Not Fat because it's one of her adult books and not the teeny-bopperish kind) and then of course, me being me... I finished all (except Teen Idol since that's Laura's present) in one day... with time to spare. And it's not like they're all that short but I guess I'm able to read her at my normal pace which is pretty fast I'll concede.
I also got Lupin III volumes 6 and 7 (STILL massively prefer Lupin's anime way over the manga but it was only 7.50 each which is like wicked good) and Tramps Like Us volume 1 for 6.50 (AMAZING bargain) the latter of which I loved so much I got the second volume at Borders the next day when I went and got the Meg Cabot books *purr* The others all being at the Pier bookstore which is terrible about having the specific volume or book you want (I was looking for Size 12 is Not Fat there but they only had one Meg Cabot book and I didn't care for it that much) but REALLY sells what they do have cheap. Which is roxors awesome.
Turns out Homeland -- the first of the Dark Elf trilogy (Drizzt books) by R.A. Salvatore is now a comic book series too... I still can't seem to really like American "graphic novels" though. I got Pat the bookmark for it as a Christmas present (since he already got his poster and otherwise all he gets is the Lum plushie) it's pretty spiffy.
Speaking of plushies; I FINALLY got to jump-start Faye's on Friday... yes the day AFTER I was planning to give it to him. Stupid migraines and crap. It's coming along GREAT though. WEIRD since he wanted curves and in a plushie that's like... messed up? I did my best though and it's DEFINITELY amazing. And I loved the fabrics I picked so far; WICKED easy to work with (doing the new bathing suit designs I tried this summer didn't work AT ALL and were incredibly difficult -- I wound up using my old one despite it being a cup size too small :|) and so soft and plushie and awesomeness... <3 I can't wait to see him enjoy it . . . which I hope he will :| It's not perfect but he gave me a VERY difficult request... I don't think any other plushie maker in the world would have tried such a thing. Faye; you better love it :P
I made up a whole bunch of lists in my head when I was in Maine... most of which I think I forget now but I like lists so here's what I remember.
Things I missed most in Maine
1) Kyle
2) not having to put up with my Dad's picks on tv (and the ensuing fights over his being a complete ass *cough*) -- on the bright side things are fixed now after my Mom went off and made us sit down and work it out. He's still a jerk though.
3) Keith
4) Yaoi >_> . . . seriously though. Once I got my internet working tonight the first thing I did was "YES! Yaoi time!" Although I almost got my fill at Talladega Nights :D :D :D :D :D (which reminds me of my other list)
5) the right cds and vast readily available music -- Pat mixed up all my Meatloaf cds (brat) AND I went crazy trying to find my black cd case to no avail, consequently even though I THOUGHT I was bringing a good 5 Meatloaf cds, I only had one! ARGH! And I didn't even my have Smoker OR Zoro mix. I did have my One Piece cds but they're not really that great with migraines and mehness. On the bright side I splurged some at Newbury Comics like the night before(?) and got some migraine conducive things... still....
6) The happy comforting darkness of the shades in my house (it was very bright there) and at night there's all these lights and things and I can't get help getting the shades down and even if I could it's not a BIG help anyways... so I mostly just had pillows over my head and since Pat stretched out my white tiger nightmask I got Dad an army frog one and me an "Army Brat" mask at Claire's (the only place I've ever seen such things but they're great for migraines) when we were at the mall/Borders the first time because my Mom left important things at home (I also got sneakers since I have none but I think they actually make my back sore? .... My boots rule all even though I love my spunky sneakers *shrug*)
7) Aim
8) Internet in general
9) Adult Swim -- though if the html editor doesn't get fixed I'm REALLY going to be annoyed.
And I still don't remember what 10 is/was.
List of things I love about Maine vacation (because I don't get to do it at home or elsewhere):
1) Boogie Boarding
2) Sand digging (which despite being 19 and every year thinking I'll stop for exchange of reading a book in the shade. . . I never do)
3) Pier Fries (even though we got like 2 boxes the whole week??? This is a record minimal for us.)
4) Waves -- I really love the sound of the ocean, the sound of water naturally is very conducive to my writing (rain, ocean, etc. Not leaky faucets.)
5) It's much cooler in Maine during summer which can be nice for someone like me who despises heat and loves sweatshirts.
6) Playing Civilization and/or 1830 -- except we didn't do much of that this year and no Civ which was sad.
7) Funtown -- which we didn't do, and we didn't go York Kingdom like we said, OR Water Country like we switched over to. . . we just went to see the life-size chocolate moose
As you can see, I missed more than I appreciated. I think it could be because of the migraine-ness or really just because I fail vacations. I do not have a "Yay! It's time to relax!!!" mental system... the more I relax, the more depressed I get. Literally. In fact, I tend to think, "hmmm yes, vacation; the perfect opportunity to get more work done," and since I'm too sick to actually plan being able to get work done I get depressed-ish if I don't get anything done which really just makes things worse. I completely understand Jay Leno's identical issues of not being able to relax and just always giving up on vacations. So really, it's a good thing I'm a writer. We don't have vacations because the work is pretty vague about deadlines anyways and such things as going away to a secluded cottage in the woods = time to get some serious work done.
Now I just need to get better so I really DO get stuff down.
Favorite French characters in movies
1) Jean Girard in Talladega Nights. He's famboyantly homosexual, from France, and basically everything that NASCAR is not but he's so good at it he just sits there reading a book and listening to opera as he drives around in circles. Also his goal was to be beaten by a truly superior driver (as his competitive nature would allow no less) so that he can retire and help his husband develop a currency for pets. And he listens to jazz and breaks Ricky Bobby's arm. AND kisses him!!!! AAAAWWWWWEEEEESSSSSOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes... you can tell yaoi has invaded all portions of my life. In any case, I loved the rednecks' response to the blatant homosexuality in a movie they expected to be all macho and about uber manly racing; so manly that the people are retarded. Yeaaah... you have no idea how much I loved that... almost as much as the gayness in and of itself.
2) that French spy guy in Godzilla who pretends to be an insurance salesperson. He has very few lines but they all ROCK and he's so kick-ass! So freaking cool. Totally almost steals the show from Mathew Broderick... but like Will Farrell, it's impossible to steal the show from them no matter how awesome you are and how you try. Still my favorite character in the whole movie and dude; he's so AWESOME ^_^
3) The French Peas in VeggieTales. A pea spinoff of the taunting French from Monty Python they throw slushies on their victims! YAY!!!
4) The French taunters in Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail. This doesn't even NEED any explanation.
... I KNOW I'm forgetting more... there were a bunch on my list but *shrug*
