Not sure if any of your have heard about RF Online or not but I have been waiting for it for a couple of months and it finally released in the states last week. First off, it is a Korean MMO (one that has been out in Korea for a couple of years) so there is not a whole lot of story content, and there is /alot/ of level grinding... But it is not bad. The level grinding reminds me alot of RO (go figure, annother Korean MMO) but it has real, non-chibi graphics and fewer hats... The graphics are nice, not top of the line but easy enough on the eyes while still being able to run on a older box, unfortionatly it needs more hats... Anyways, I have actually found it pretty fun. At first i was disapointed, it was not at all what I expected, but i gave it a second shot and found that it was pretty enjoyable, in its own way. Its /not/ WoW.. it is a completely different style of MMO, and I think it has a better PvP system than WoW does (I don't care much for WoW PvP) but still, you really cannot compare the two games other than that they are both MMO's. It is very unpolished and still needs alot of work, they released it a bit early in my opinion, but thats alright, they will get around to making it better with patches.
The theme is a mix of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. There is a elf like race who summons demon like creatures, a halfling/elf like race who is very technological and builds Mechs for combat, and there is a third Alien race who is invading... who I am not exactly sure what they do.. The PvP is centered mainly around control of a mine where ore is gathered to craft things or to sell and boost your race's economhy (the economy system is really nice, each race has two currencies; a racial currency and gold. Racial currency can be cashed in for gold, and vise versa, at a changing rate depending on the economy, and the more gold that players have as a whole, the lower taxes on buying items and what not will be. If there is little gold on players, the taxes will be high) Every 8 hours there is a "chip" war for control of the mine. If it goes 3 hours without a winner, the mine is free for all for the next 8 hours untill the next chip war. if someone wins, they have control of the mine for the next 8 hours.
That is pretty much the gist... I think its fun, the only thing Im not so sure about is it carries the same monthly fee as WoW; $15 a month, but as unpolished as it is, I don't think it should be more than $10 a month... well, we'll see if they manage to get some heafty patches out in a reasonable amount of time to improve the game and warrent the $15..
If anyone picks RF Online up; I play on the Water server (#3). I started on Spirit (#1) but the people were not very friendly. Water's players are much friendlier; the ones who are not bitching that WoW is better, or that WoW sucks... really, they need to realise they cannot be compaired.. WoW is like a RPG, while I RF is... mmm.. it kind of feels like a FPS, but its not... But still, would you compare a RPG to a FPS? No, they are two different types of games.
