I might as well jump off the bridge too.. err, that is to say I might as well update today..
Where to start? My plans for tonight, or my rant for tonight? Hmm.. Lets start with the plans, shall we?
My V-Day (not at all unrelated to D-Day) plans for this evening consist of the following items of which I am now (after a stop by IGA on the way home early) in possesion of:
~ One pound of Strawberries
~ Five Kiwi (5 for 1 sale)
~ One bag of Hershey's Hugs
~ One bag of Riesens
~ Six pack of Twisted Tea hard iced tea, Peach flavored.
Now what shall be done with these items I will leave to your vast imaginations..
NOW... (drum roll please)
THE RANT! (que bright shiny lights and that holy/glory chime sound thing)
I.Hate.Cable.Internet! I'v said it before.. In fact I have said it multiple times before.. but guess what? Every tuesday, for the past six weeks, there is "noise" in the cable lines on the west side of town (where I live) and I lose my connection! This noise almost always starts between 5 and 7pm, and of course like the true Americans, they work a 9 to 5 shift.. But, unlike inteligent companies, EVERYONE works a 9 to 5 shift, and evidently for as far as I can tell they have never grapsed the conect of night shift techs! If the problem happens after 6pm, it will persit untill the next morning when they return to work... and I pay $40 a month for this sh*t? Oh, I also might add that Jae is /also/ on the west side of town, only a few blocks closer in, and never has any noise in her lines..
SO.. it has persited to the point that I am actually having a phone line hooked up on Monday and DSL service started. I will also, quite happily, be canceling my cable service. Only down side is I will be paying about $80 a month for DSL because the phone company here (CenturyTEL) is way over priced.. $28 just for a basic, no extras what so ever, phone line plus $50 for 1.5mb/512k DSL.. As unethical as it sounds to say this; I miss Qwest.. I know they are evil, but they are a gooder evil than CenturyTEL.. Yes, I said /gooder/ evil. Back home, with Qwest, I can get a normal bare bones phone like, what I will be paying twenty-eight bucks for here, for only around $13. I can also have DSL capability added to that for like a extra $30; only $33. Then, for only $10 more I can have Infinity Internet (a.k.a. Pacifier) provide me with 1.5mb/512k DSL service for a grand total of $45 - $50 a month... thats $30 less than here! And I know that Pacifier has top notch tech support (have delt with them on numerous occasions; although I never did end up speaking to Chase..) They also seemed able to make Qwest get thier butt in gear to fix any line problems. Ah well..
The downside on top of all that? There is a bunch of hookup fees, including having to pay the first two months bills at the first billing period. The result? I was seriously thinking of driving home for the 3 day weekend at the end of this week.. Unfortionatly I will not beable to afford to do so now.
