thats my favorite one. I think I would be that kind of parent. I wonder what brought on homophobia... lack of confidence? prejudice? christianity? hmmm...

It's a chain of things, really.

Homosexuality is something that many people don't understand.
People mistrust things they don't understand.
Fear things they mistrust.
Resent the fact that they fear.
grow to hate due to resentment.

Though many people don't realize they're doing it. When asked why they hate homosexuality, many would say, "Because it's wrong." In other words, something they don't understand.

Throwing religion into the mix doesn't help though... It's harder to attain understanding when someone/thing you acknowledge and view as better/wiser than you tells you that it's absolutely wrong and should be abolished.

Religion can play a large part on why people fear and do not understand some things like this. The video presentation I watched today showed that in other countries that are strongly controlled by the vatican (Africa, Latin America, etc.) that people will blindly follow what the church says, because they belive that the church knows better than anyone else. Take Africa and the AID epidemic there; Majority of those in Catholic states refuse to use condoms, and in some they are even outlawed for the most part. Condoms would greatly reduce the spread of the virus, but because the curch does not condone (and activly fights against) any form of contraceptive, people wont use the. The proof the church offers against using the is thus: Latex is made of rubber and thus has pures that the small viruses can squeeze through during intercourse. This is released in a public pamplet, signed by the cardinal. Leading medical scientists in the World Health Organization has told them that it is simply not true, but the church just says they have thiere ( ... )
