It's been one of those days. I woke up at a decent hour, felt meh, the cat started bothering me, I rolled over, and fell back asleep. I woke up just late enough that I'd never make it to the bus. Fell back asleep. Woke up too late to get to the second bus. Said to hell with it and came into work at 1:30pm. Apparently my body was not interested in waiting for Saturday to catch up on sleep.
We're also scheduled for thunderstorms (a little isolated, and a lot scattered) for 9 of the next 10 days. That sucks. My knee agrees.
I've had really bizarre dreams lately. In one, I can remember nothing but yelling at someone (I think I was at work) "I'M GERMAN! (Insert very VERY German last name here) is GERMAN!" I have no idea why I was having this argument in the dream. Another dream involved a ship (big commercial fishing type ship) filled with hundreds and thousands of dead sharks. (Mostly Great Whites, some Makos). People are standing there unloading them and I'm screaming and screaming at them.
Yeah. Lots of screaming. Even my dreams have anger management issues. :p
And they just took down the program we use to log calls. That should make for a fun evening. And they gave us all of eight minutes warning too. How nice of them.
I also found out that the decision on our new contract won't be made until freaking July. Dammit, I want to know if I'm getting a raise out of this deal. (We should. We're underpaid compared to other departments and we require way more memorized program knowledge than they do.) I wonder if we'll get any notice whatsoever before they ship our butts to NJ for training this fall. Or if that will even happen. They'll probably decide about a month before they send us, if we're lucky.
Wow, that was a good way to kill time. I got to talking to all the old ladies at work for a while. Naturally, we're now getting mocked by the two 20-somethings at the end of the row. In general, fuck'em. The three I was talking to are more interesting than they could ever be. Unless I wanted to discuss how to get drunk. Whee!
Sounds like the parents are going to be off tomorrow for Ye Olde High School Reunion and grave decorating. I, sadly, cannot go with them, as I am scheduled for watching paint dry that day. But hey, at least now they're letting spouses attend it. (Is it sad that they had to wait for enough of them to die off before they could afford to let spouses come to the party?) As for grave decorating, it still seems stupid to me to set aside one day a year to remember the dead and stick tacky plastic flowers on their graves. Remember them year-round and leave the plastic flowers where they belong: in vases in nursing homes.
Anyway.
I need to figure out a new birthday gift and Father's Day gift for Dad. Unfortunately, he has decided he doesn't want to fly out to see my Great Aunt anymore, and was trying to get one of us to take the gift card we bought him at Christmas. (Which is tacky. Regifting is bad enough, but to the people who bought it for you?) So, airline gift card idea is gone. He doesn't golf or bowl anymore. He doesn't really have any shows he watches. (Joe or someone bought him S1 of M*A*S*H and I don't think he's ever watched it.) He doesn't have any hobbies. So what the hell am I supposed to get him? I can't even think of any computer games or other stuff for the computer that he'd enjoy. And the only thing I know he wants is WAY out of my financial league. (He's been drooling over those giant flatscreen TVs for ages. Yeah, keep dreamin'.)
I'm highly tempted to be a lazy bastard and just go buy a bunch of KU T-shirts for him. He likes those, and he needs some new ones so he'll stop wearing the old holey ones.
If he really refuses to use the gift card, I might buy it off of him. It'd cover probably half the cost of a trip to St. Louis, which I'm planning for sometime this fall anyway. (As always, I'll probably get the trip there planned just to have them dump NJ on me the same week.) And even if I have a car by then, I'm not driving anywhere in or near St. Louis. Ugh. (Whoa. Wash U only gets one day for Fall Break 2008. That sucks...)
I should go look around at cars, see if anything new has popped up. Cheap. Cheap would be good.
