Dorkiness is a way of life.

You know you're a bit of a dork when your list of "Five most recently purchased books" reads:

1. Origins Reconsidered, by Richard Leakey. Details his finding and excavation of Turkana Boy and the Black Skull, as well as his musings on human evolution and such.

2. In the Shadow of Man, by Jane Goodall. Primary (and first) book about the research with the Gombe chimpanzees.

3. Through a Window, by Jane Goodall. (This is what I'm reading right now, and have a feeling I'm going to burn through it in no time flat.) Further discussion about the Gombe chimps (and I think it goes a bit into her advocacy for improving the lives of chimps in captivity.)

4. Gorillas in the Mist, by Dian Fossey. I've only read the introduction to this, but I have a feeling her writing style is a good deal more scientific and less lyrical than Jane Goodall's. I'm looking forward to starting in on this one. What can I say? I remember being a little kid at the Topeka Zoo and going to see the gorillas they had. (I have nebulous plans to eventually go visit that really neat gorilla exhibit in Memphis. Er...or was it the one in Louisville? Argh, I should've kept notes...)

5. Biography of Jane Goodall by...some guy. If I'd known she wrote her own autobiography, I'd have waited and bought that instead. This could be interesting, though.

Yup. Primatology and physical anthropology. Sometimes I shock myself with my own dorkiness.

Come to the Dork Side! We have chimps.
