She claims to have been an 'IN' campaigner, but, when I wrote asking her to support another referendum, she gave a defeatist response: "I do not think the vote would be any different and I think it would reopen wounds that have only just started to heal in our country". She added lamely that she "will not sit back and let the Conservative party dictate what happens", that she wants a Customs Union, not a "hard brexit".
I've told her that this will never heal. She's letting people's rights be taken away against their will. I just wish it were possible to renounce a British passport and just have a Nansen-type one that says 'Citizen of Europe'. I can never, ever forgive those responsible, those who voted for it as much as the Conservative politicians who decided to have the referendum. I also includes the Labour politicians who have behaved like moral cowards and enabled it. There is no point whatsoever in "soft Brexit" - some economic access, so good for business, but no democratic rights and no citizenship rights for individuals. The only good Brexit is a dead Brexit. The only good Brexiter is a dead Brexiter, but at least given their average age, nature will take its course…
