Had a super time, though a few disappointments: the ferry took longer than expected to unload at Zeebrugge, so we ended up having only 3hrs 45 min in Lille, and the late 18C room (Boilly and David) was closed for refurbishment. So no chance to see the Little Darling… They don't even do a postcard.
However - the mediæval altarpieces (paintings and sculptures) in the basement were fab and I have taken lots of piccies, which you will see in due course. Also some good 19C stuff, including a sculpture called Obsession, of a priest or monk beset by fantasy figures of naked women… Very Claude, I thought!
It's a super gallery - gorgeous building, and the café was really good, too. I had a mixed (cold meat and cheese) platter, followed by a slice of excellent custard tart (I couldn't be in the North without eating tart in Max's honour!). Because they were busy and service was slow, they gave me a free extra glass of wine with it, too!
The voyage was comfy both directions, too.
