It was cold, it was damp, but it was fun!
I met up with my Californian pals
loupnoir and
albionwood, who are here for Celtic Connections. We had a massive business lunch in
Paradise, a wonderfully cosy Iranian restaurant on GW Road. The soup, Ashe Reshteh, has chickpeas and noodles, and is so thick you could almost stand your spoon up in it. The Khoresht Ghaimeh Bademjan - lamb stew with aubergines and a mountain of rice - was also wonderful, though the whole cooked lime tends to explode gravy when you put your knife and fork into it. Delicious! Excellent nan bread, too (lighter than Indian nan), and minty, salty doogh (a sort of savoury lassi/yoghurt drink). We couldn't finish everything, there was so much, and for little more than £8 a head!
Then we ventured into Thistle Books/Alba Music and Voltaire & Rousseau (where we saw the 2 tabbies who have replaced the late lamented Boris), and for a pot of tea in
Tchaiovna, an old and very Boho haunt of mine. So we sat around a while, talking about everything from
Dogheads to fanfic. Fabulous!
And the secondhand hardback of Mary Norton's Bed-Knob and Broomstick I'd ordered had arrived. So I'm well pleased!
