Remember I mentioned I was going yesterday to meet Amelia and two other people from the board? Best time I've had in a while. I brought my friend Jon, and I was very glad he could come. I thought he might fit in with them, and he did. We had a great time, meeting for dinner at T.G.I.Fridays about two hours before the book signing, and just talking. Zim was hilarious when he introduced himself by putting his arms over Mop's shoulders and saying "Hi, I'm Zimmy". There was a general round of handshakes all around. Mop's an art student. Zim graduated college a while ago. Amy's in grad school, and then me and Jon are seniors in high school. I was the youngest there, but it didn't seem to matter. We talked about fun stuff.
Of course, we walked across the street to B&N about an hour before the actual signing. I bought a copy of the older Falcondance (they zoomed in the covers for the new paper-backs; I wanted one to match the set I have) and one of Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters books (the third one; can't remember the title). Then it was time for the book signing, during which we refrained from the kind of conversation we had at the restaurant in the interest of keeping things PG-13 (because Amelia is, after all, a YA writer).
Later we stood around talking until someone suggested that perhaps we should find somewhere other than the B&N to discuss things. We went to some place with WiFi and kept talking until 10, at which point the shop closed and everyone left to go to their respective homes.
We had a blast. I hope we can do it again soon. These are the kind of people I like hanging out with. There aren't many people at the high school who could keep me interested and engaged for that long. Then again, everyone assures me that that is what college is for.
Anyways, Ciao!
