Critters and crossing Caradhras

My development territory isn't the biggest out of the 50-something of us, but it is VARIED.  Up north it's cold and wet, and then there's the Palouse.  Columbia county alone has an enormous gradient of rainfall.
And on my various 1-3 hours drives to cooperators and field sites, I see a lot of critters.
- MINIATURE HORSES OMG
- alpacas
- a camel!
- poop-ton of goats
- donkeys
- horses and ponies
- a sculpture/statue of a brontosaurus (which was never an actual dino anyway but whatever) almost as tall as a two story house... which it sits in front of

This past weekend, I made the trip out to Seattle, where Marci and I had a huge sewing weekend for SCA reasons.  I made a linen t-tunic, and used one of the SCA online drawing-pattern-things to make a kaftan.  It was literally jaw-dropping for me when I finally put it on and it somehow fit at all.  Now I just have to deal with my raw edges inside... because lining isn't going to happen.
I also went on a Trader Joe's run, and bought a garage sale iron for $3.
I'm really looking forward to the Crown Event this month!  I'll get to meet a lot of new people and learn some things too!  I've also volunteered to be a water bearer, which I hope will facilitate the meeting people and garb-watching.

On the way home from Seattle, to two site visits in central WA, the Snoqualmie pass was use-chains-or-suck-it.  It's the last week of April, but I never go anywhere without chains and a tarp, so chains and 4 wheel drive it was.  Added an extra 30 min to my drive, but I made it over the mountain pass snowmageddon safe and sound.

Last week on Thursday, I had enough time at the end of the day, and the wind wasn't horrible, to ride my bike on the big bike trail around the river.  It was 21.4 miles, and took me 1hr 54min, but was the best bike trail I've ever been on.  Only a few bad hills, and beautiful views.  I'm very lucky to have this here for outdoor rides.  It's what I wanted back in VA.

Also last week, I had my sleep study follow-up.  Big shock here... I have primary insomnia.  The good news is that all of my readings were normal-- no apnea or lack of O2.  I didn't move at all (which they thought was great for equipment reasons.  Me, "Well, you told me to sleep on my back, so I did.") and only woke up 4 times through the night.  Duh.  It was good because I was conked out on 2 Benedryl.
But the primary insomnia is a thing, because I did have 21 sleep-arousals in my brain, where my brain has random spikes of activity and moves toward waking me up (caution: don't google sleep arousal... it won't return the scientific term lol).
The doctor said that Benedryl as needed is a great way to continue if I don't want to try a prescription medication (I don't).  He's glad I can fall asleep without the Benedryl too.  Since the problem lies in my brain not settling down for the night, the doctor thinks I could greatly benefit from meditation every night.  I think he's right.  I'm going to look into it before my 6 month follow-up appointment.

Work is busy, blah blah blah field season.  Farmer's markets starting up sooooon!  Asparagus season right now!
Covers it.
