The trick is to remember that you are auditioning the doctors. They will be working for you, and so if you don't feel good about talking to one, don't hire him. If she pushes drugs you don't want to take, or insists on treating drugs in a way you don't want to live with, and won't do talk therapy to help you get your own way around them, then you would be better off whacking the gong, dropping them through the trapdoor in the floor, and yelling "NEXT!"
When I hired Holly to help me, I had to ask about her religious views (compatible with mine?) and her societal views (You're not gonna try and fix my sexuality or my political views, are you?) and her views on the metaphysical (if you think psi is proof of delusion, we're not gonna get far.) before I hired her to work with me.
Because for me, the fact that she DID work for me meant that I could be more honest than I would be with a friend. I could hide less, I could tell harsher truths, I could say what I really meant, because she wasn't going to tell anybody what I said. She wasn't there to be my friend, she was there to help me see myself, and to tell me the truth about what she saw in me. That made so very much difference.
