Heres the story i forgot to post on sunday...lol
long but o well...
“Where were you last night?” Alex asked questioningly.
“I was um, out…with some friends.” Sydney’s eyes slid from Alex’s to the floor when she answered. She wasn’t being completely untruthful. She was out with friends. Well, a friend anyway who seemed to be transforming into a little more than a friend these days.
“Oh. Well, I was trying to get in touch with you all night. Why didn’t you have your phone on?” Alex was getting rather worried. Seldom has he called Sydney and her cell been off.
“I was in the middle of a movie silly! Don’t look so paranoid.” Sydney responded playfully, hoping to lighten the mood.
Alex couldn’t help smiling back at her as he began to relax a little bit. He started thinking about their anniversary coming up on Saturday. Everything was going to be perfect. He had an amazing evening planned for the two of them. He planned to take her away for the night to stay at his father’s camp. He hired an excellent chef to cook them an exquisite candle-lit dinner. He had also found a place near the camp that offered horse-drawn carriage rides.
The bell for the start of school was ringing, breaking Alex’s thoughts. Quickly the couple hugged, said their good byes and headed toward their classes.
…
Sydney couldn’t concentrate during her first period history class. She felt bad for keeping things from Alex. They had always been honest with each other about their feelings toward each other and other people. But she didn’t know how she was supposed to tell him where she really was last night.
The clock seemed to tick faster and faster, closer to the end of class. Sydney would have to see Alex again after this. Sooner or later, he would notice she was lying. She just wished that she didn’t start feeling this way right before their two year anniversary.
Suddenly the bell rang, making Sydney jump about 50 feet in the air. She took her time getting her things together. By the time she was out the door, there was Alex coming up the hallway.
She threw on her brightest smile and sweetest voice. They walked down the hall to her next class in silence.
Sydney managed to get through the whole week without being confronted about her feelings. Alex had to work almost everyday after school, so she had a lot of time to think about what was going on.
Sydney came to the conclusion that the best thing would be to just forget anything ever happened. It was after all, just a kiss. She loved Alex and planned on staying with him for a long time. The more she thought about it, she didn’t have feelings for the other guy, Mark. She hadn’t even talked to him all week.
She went to bed Friday night with a huge grin on her face. She was so excited about tomorrow. Saturday would be hers and Alex’s anniversary. She could barely sleep that night.
Sydney woke up early Saturday morning to make sure she had everything packed. Alex had told her to pack an overnight bag the day before and had told her that he would be picking her up before lunch because it was a long drive to where they were going.
Sydney waited anxiously in the kitchen. She concentrated on the stenciled border of apples around the kitchen wall. She studied it carefully attempting to take her mind of the excitement. Blood red apples with a slight cream color showing through in some spots from the paint on the wall.
She glanced at the clock every now and then checking the time. She got up out of her chair and wandered around the house a bit to calm her nerves. It was well past one before Alex arrived.
As soon as Sydney heard the car pull into the drive, she rushed out the door expecting to jump in his arms.
The look on Alex’s face stopped her dead in her tracks.
“What-What is it?” Sydney’s voice was coated with worry. Alex looked close to tears.
He could barely speak, “Why would you do this? Why wouldn’t you tell me where you really were last Sunday?”
Sydney was shocked. She had managed to wipe it totally out of her mind. She tried to stay calm and talk it out with him. She started to explain but he wouldn’t hear any of it.
Suddenly, Alex jumped back in his car and tore out of the drive way. Sydney didn’t know what to do.
She wandered back to her room and cried. Several times she tried calling Alex’s cell phone that afternoon.
Around 5 o’clock her phone rang. Sydney raced and called down the stairs that she would get it, hoping it was Alex. It wasn’t. It was Alex’s mom.
“Hello, Sydney? Alex was…Alex is…” His mom took a deep breath, “He died in a car accident this afternoon.”
Sydney was speechless. The receiver fell out of her hands with an echoing thud onto the floor. A new thought came into her mind. “It wasn’t just a kiss…” she whispered.
