Partly as a distraction from studying for my midterms, I tooki on the monumental task of re-organizing my music collection; Having used a number of file-sharing programmes as well as waffling between music players for a couple of years, it was deeply in need of some organization as my collection spanned at least a dozen different folders and I could never find anything when I wanted too; Having switched to a single reliable file-sharer (
Safe Share and settled on
Itunes - perhaps the greatest invention ever - the time for an overhual was at hand.. It was decided that, for ease of creating themed playlists and whatnot, that the music should be organized according to genre; Thus, the historic task began with an attempt to cover all major genres that are represnted in my library without being too specific or too general. Disturbingly, I settled on 33 fifferent genres, as follows:
Accapella
Alternative Rock
Alternative Pop
Beatbozing
Blues
Classic Rock
Comedy
Country
Dance
Disco
Disney
Easy Listening
Emo
Folk Rock
Hard Rock
Heavy Metal
Hip Hip / Rap
Jazz
Melodic Rock
Miscellaneous
Music Theater
Oldies
Pop
Pop Rock
Punk
R&B
Reggae
Rock
Ska
Soul
Funk
Techno / Electronica
Themes / Soundtracks
As well as a few folders for individual artists and groups of whom I have just too much bloody music to fit into another folder (Ie. U2, the Beatles, MJ, Simon & Garfunkle, Smashing Pumpkins etc); Also not that my 'Classical' musuic library is already well in order and so not included; Yes indeed, as I looked over the mostrous task of organizing 2500 + pop songs into genres, I realized that I am, in fact, a music junkie to the extreme. I don't believe there is a single genre not represented in my library; *sigh* Oh how I heart music . . .
So while this task is under way, I have a couple of tasks for you, my faithful readers:
1) I am accepting wagers as too which of the afore-mentioned genres will in fact contain the lasrgest number of songs; I'm not entire sure myself, but I could make some educated guesses - lets' see how you guys do :p
2) Along the 'Ian being a music junkie' line, I want each and every one of you to give me some suggestions for some new songs for me to aquire. Again, I love all genres, so give me something you're pretty sure I don't have already (And yes, in case you cared, I do have a fairly extensive Johnny Cash repetoire already :p)
Go at it kids!!!
