I ran out of class at 610pm and hopped into the car with Tim, KK, and Jon. We rumbled along until we go to Syracuse. It was pretty crazy cold cause the condensation inside the car froze on the window. We got there and parked in this church lot but then found out the google map had the wrong address and we were like 7 blocks and a hill away from the student center where the cafe Vienna would be performing at was. We were kinda nervous that there'd be a lot of people cause we saw a whole bunch of people on the streets walking towards Syracuse University. We started walking, realized the car would be way too far in the way too cold later that night, so Tim and I went back to park the car elsewhere while KK and Jon went to get seats. KK calls after they get there and say... there is nobody there. Hah!
Orginally a closed private event, I had emailed Vienna and the world about what this event was (and basically whether there was a way to attend) and three days prior I received an email back from her that it was now an open event. Free open event... cause to worry that we wouldn't get a seat. But apparently the people streaming into the student center were there for some other dance performance and about 20 (if that many) people were at the cafe to hear Vienna. :) We got seats right under her nose. :oP Well... maybe the first stable off the little platform. It was just her and a keyboard. She did a really great set... all her good songs... some new previews from her unreleased fourth album... her voice clear as ever, and her piano playing (esp for Harbour) awesome. It was great cause I could hear all the lyrics and for the first time understood what some of the songs were talking about. The keyboard wasn't channeling all her energy though... like she was a much more powerful player than could be expressed through the Casio keyboard.
Afterwards, we hung out a little bit and I wanted a group picture with Vienna. So we loitered around a little and then it was our turn to chat with her! She was nice and social and we hogged her for awhile. (We were one of the last people in the room.) Then we asked some students where to eat cause were hungry (Tim made us all burritos, which we ate in on the ride up... but they burned off sometime during the night...). One of the students was this girl who helped organized the event and I think she was talking to her boyfriend about going to Insomnia Cookies and asked Vienna whether she wanted to go. And since we were the last people hanging around, we kinda... tagged along. :oP So we all hiked over the cookie place, got different kinds of ridiculously small overpriced brownies. (Diddy Reese was a much better deal! And probably tastier!) But what is that price when it comes to getting to eat brownies with Vienna Teng. haha. And then... I guess she was hungry and she wanted sushi, so we all stopped at this sushi restuarant while she ordered a rainbow roll. There was no place to sit at Insomnia Cookies, so we went back to her hotel and sat in the Sheraton lobby. So we chatted, ate our brownies... and I was the only one to partake in some of Vienna's sushi... (wheee raw fish!)
So... we got front row seats at a free Vienna Teng concert and got to hang out with her. That's a good deal, yeah? ;)
