The Much Needed Update

Feb 04, 2007 21:07

It's been about 4 months since I last gave an update on my life. To make things easier, I'll break them down into different sections.

Work:
I have started my new schedule with the Blubaughs. I work M 12-9, T 6-11, F 12-9, and Sat 11-6. In March I'll be going to the Big XII Tournament in Oklahoma City with them! Hopefully I'll get to catch a game or two while I'm there.
Katie is 2. She's talking up a storm and her new favorite song is "The Wheels on the Bus." Recent developments include: asking LOTS of questions, hiding Jack's binkie in her toy kitchen microwave, and entering the "Terrible Two" stage.
Jack is 11 months. He officially weighs more than Katie and is almost as tall as her too! Recent developments include: popping that first tooth about 3 weeks ago, working on standing alone and babbling (no formation of words yet). He's also obsessed with Barney.

School:
Last semester ended pretty well and the break was much needed. I'm not in school this semester because I see no need to spend ~$2,500 on a semester of pure electives. I should find out within 6 weeks if I have been accepted to the KU School of Nursing. So far, not being a student hasn't sunk in yet...it seems more like a summer break only in winter. We'll see if this changes as the semester progresses.
Personal:
I'm a vegetarian!! While Craig did have an influence on that, my ethics class from last semester introduced me to the PETA video that changed everything...in addition to the ethical callousness of my fellow classmates and I'm sure the larger public. Though I still have cravings, it has been easier than expected.
Also, in large (make that entire) part to Craig, I have become much more aware of environmental issues as well as other progressive ideas. Through movies such as "An Inconvenient Truth", "Who Killed the Electric Car?", "The End of Suburbia" and "The Girl in the Cafe"; my eyes have been opened, often to the point of tears. Along with these movies, the novels Ishmael and The Story of B (and I'm sure My Ishmael will) have changed the perspective from which I view our culture.  I would recommend all of these to each of you, if only to spread the knowledge that these films and novels contain.
After years of doubt and uncertainty, my religious beliefs are currently at the agnostic/atheist point.  And, I have to say, I feel so much more content since this revelation has occurred.  I had quite the conversation with my mother about this over Christmas resulting in her giving me copies of C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters and Lee Strobel's The Case for a Creator for Valentine's Day.  I haven't decided if it is even worth reading them...at this point it would take a miracle for me to buy into that again.
Oh yeah, I'm considering piercing my eyebrow.  My plan is to donate blood and then get it pierced.  I also have to find a good piercer...any suggestions?

Family:
Thanksgiving and Christmas went smoothly, though busy, this (actually, last) year.  We had a scare with my mom in the early part of last month.  A questionable mammogram was followed by several biopsies, all of which came back benign (thank goodness!).  Other than that, I haven't spent that much time with my family that recently.  It isn't so much that I don't enjoy it, but rather a lack of time.  I also feel as though I'm reaching the point of growing up and moving forward with my adult life.  But, this semester I'll be able to spend a bit more time with them.

Friends:
I think I have finally reconnected with Katie!  I've found the perfect time when both of us are available to chat for a while.  I think that our little break from talking was really beneficial and has made our relationship even healthier.
I've been making a better attempt to see Crystal more often as well.  I wasn't there for her as much as I should have last semester, especially with her dad's situation.
I've been quite sad that Rachel hasn't been able to make Grey's because of her work schedule with Pioneer Ridge.
I feel the need to call Laura sometime.  Lately, I've realized that I'm wanting to stay in contact with friends, I want to have an idea of what is going on in their life instead of just wondering...

Love:
I'm very much in love!  I've learned more about myself in the past few months than I could have ever imagined. Craig can't seem to keep his hands off of me...and I gotta say that it's doing wonders for my self-esteem.  I'm so happy!
