Crocheted creations for Christmas

New month, new layout! I finished the scarves I was crocheting the munchkins for Christmas. The entire endeavor ended up turning into something of a comedy of errors so I'm glad to finally be finished. Pictures are behind the cut.

Katie's favorite color is baby blue so I used that with white as the accent color. I kept the pattern simple because she's something of a fashion diva. I considered adding a few pom-poms to each end but scrapped the idea in the interest of time.

Jake doesn't have a favorite color but he's really into college football so I used the Longhorns team colors as inspiration. It took me several weeks to find the right shade of burnt orange and about two weeks to crochet the scarf only to find out a week later that he's no longer a Longhorns fan since Vince Young turned pro.

Arden also likes blue but I wanted hers to be different from Katie's and a little brighter since she's so young. She caught me crocheting Maddie's scarf and told me that she'd hate to get a scarf as a Christmas present. I'm hoping she'll like how colorful it is and ignore the fact that it's not a toy.

Since Josh is 16 I wanted something that looked masculine so I went with a darker color palette and touches of white for contrast. The blue is a little bit brighter than it photographs. I think this is my favorite and the only one that I'm really happy with.

Maddie's is the only one I made without stripes. I started a striped one but didn't like the way it was turning out so I decided to scrap it. She's a girly girl so I took the brighter pink of the two I'd been using and did a basic scarf surrounded by shell stitches. The second pic is so you can see some of the detail.

This isn't a present but I thought I'd share anyway. It started as a test swatch when I was trying to teach myself how to crochet again over the summer. Arden liked it so much that I ended up turning it into a scarf for her which she's graciously modeling. How times change!
