What part of "Thou Shalt Not Kill" is not clear?

Dr. George Tiller, one of less than a dozen doctors in the United States who perform late-term abortion services, was murdered this morning in the narthex of his church. A suspect is now in custody. He has been targeted over the last 25 years by anti-bortion terrorists, primarily at his clinic and home. His clinic was bombed, and he was shot before in a previous assassination attempt. The women who need these services often have heartbreaking circumstances and travel enormous distances to reach a doctor who has the training to give the care they require.

Wanting to do something with my anger that does not involve setting people on fire, I have decided to do something small to help ensure that people can continue to access services in the immediate future and that the number of students who are trained in contraceptive and abortion services might increase.

In honor of Dr. Tiller, I will have a donation jar at my party this week to be split between Medical Students for Choice which does externships in abortion training programs for medical students in residency and the Haven Coalition, a network of volunteers which provides food and housing for women who travel to NY City for late-term abortions (NYC has 2 of the now 9 clinics nationally providing these services). Feministe has a list of addition local and national organizations which are in continual need for support in women's health services.
