Avoided campus today since it was "State Paddy's Day" (like we need another excuse to drink in this town?) and a recruiting weekend for my department. I did go in to see a friend act in the play Killadelphia, which is about Philadelphia and prison life told through the voices of lifers convicted for murder. I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did, given the content. I think it takes a fair bit of talent to take such heavy subject matter, juxtapose the voices of murderers and their survivors, and make it light enough to be something other than utterly depressing. If you get the chance to see it, do so.
Got woken up by door-to-door Jesus salesmen Wednesday. They noted they had "awoken" me but did not apologize. Then they tried to give me a tract which would "take you into your bible", which I got the impression meant I would get sucked inside and be able to take a tour of Gallilee 2000 years ago. I told them I was "very familiar" with the bible and shooed them away. In retrospect, I should have taken the tract so I could trace the church they were knocking on behalf of and yell at them. If they come again and I am awake before they arrive, I get the feeling there will be arguing about a)the efficacy of spreading god word this way, and b) helloooo gay! Because they seemed the type who don't think gaiety is legit either.
Here is a thing that helped me smile today:
Unfortunately, Pants at The Economy Isn't Happening (hat tip:
tasty_mangoes). It's a very special story about falling in love with a foreign language. Heh. Pants.
