Saw Coraline yesterday evening. It was fantastic! Not nearly so creepy as the book, but very faithful to the spirit of things. I loved the animation style, and the demo at the end of the credits was fascinating. I'd consider rereading the book again if I hadn't been so scared when I read it the first time around and my life weren't so scary now.
Helping organize a local film festival on LGBT issues presently. Lots of films I'm looking forward to, April 6-16. Also learned of many films I want to see once they're available for home rental. Summer: Netflix will return to my house. Srsly.
Looking forward to Watchmen coming out in a few weeks. I saw three different commercials, and it looks amazing. I also want to see more of the costumes, particularly Scarlet Witch's. The special effects for Dr Manhattan look glorious. I was also alerted to upcoming X-MEN Origins: Wolverine, the trailer of which looks promising.
I have missed movies, and will have to make a better effort to keep them in my life. Friends: if you see a preview or the like you think I might enjoy, please let me know. I am probably not yet aware of it, and if you're reasonably local I'll probably be happy to go see it together!
Oh, and the "music" is this:
RadioLab NYC's podcast Tell Me a Story, about the importance of telling science stories in plain language to counter some of the BS we are bombarded with daily, particularly to those without the scientific training. It's an entertaining story, if only for the comparison of Newton's and Gallileo's respective communication styles. My field could certainly take note, and I know a number of other (not always scientific) fields could stand the advice.
