Quickie.
I've tried to update this like ten times but I keep stalling and procrastinating or having my attention run elsewhere.
There's really not much to say anyway.
Started phonology yesterday, my skin went cold when I realized just how much I had forgotten. My previous prof focused on theory and "what things were" and this prof has already leapt to "now make it happen" so I'm writing in code and feature matrices already. There was no review either, just straight in.
I've done half my readings, the other half I'll do today. I'm writing pages of notes off it, hoping something will sink in. The first readying was about tone-based units and how they associate with tones, there's an autosegmental condition and a no crossing constraint that detail how you match up the TBUs and their tones. That's chapter 9 of the text, but then, in the courseware, he's going off about prosodic phonology! That isn't until chapter 15 of our text (which wasn't assigned) so I'm a little puzzled as to how it's going to match up.

I think my next trip to the States will involve Chicago or Kansas,, I am having SO much fun with my guild right now. We're always chattering and teasing each other over vent, the officer's chat has had me in tears a few times and I can't wait until the fun transfers over to the new message board. A chunk of my guildies are meeting up in Chicago this summer but that's too soon for me, I hope they make it a tradition or something so I can go down and see them all, but I've had another invite to visit a smaller number of them in Kansas, and well, flights to Kansas must be cheap, I don't think there's anything special down there.
