I apologize for the lack of an entry last night... I'll make up for it with a double-shot tonight.
First, old business... I owe you a "Friend of the Day" for yesterday, the 6th. And we have... Pam Radwin. Go Pammy. OK... hmmm... well, let's begin at the beginning... Pam and I met on June 13th, 1997. It was my best guy friend from high school's birthday, and Pam just happened to be his girlfriend at the time. But my friendship with Pam really didn't develop until a year or so later --- interestingly enough --- after I had gone away to college. We kept in touch through my vice, AIM (52% AIM addict, go me!). So I came home for my birthday in February of my freshman year ('99), and Pam, Jen, and Becky all came out to see me... they're such sweeties. And as a "bonus" birthday present, Pam invited me to her senior prom. It was a blast, even if I showed up a tad late to the pre-prom party at Vera's (Mount Sinai and Malverne aren't exactly "down the block" from each other!). But it was a really fun time... all her friends were really cool with me, her parents are the nicest people, and she never fails to make me smile. And in a turn of poetic justice, now I work at SUNY Stony Brook, where she is a resident student... which reminds me that I should give her a buzz and go visit sometime. Thanks Pammy!
OK... on to today (which is on the brink of being yesterday). We had our final basketball game of the season. We played our asses off, but the season ended on an unfortunately sour note, thanks to some really crappy officiating. I'm never one to make excuses in competition... but it was really getting out of hand tonight. Between lopsided foul calls, a bullshit technical foul on me (for not taking my cross off), numerous no-calls in their favor, and probably half a dozen injuries to my team, it was no real surprise that we were playing catch-up the entire time. We lost 62-46, but frankly, we were pleased with our effort. It was our highest point total of the season, we had some real flashes of solid play, and we kept our compsure through a steep uphill battle with a tough opponent, poor officiating, and fatigue (we only had six players, so for the third straight game, I played ALL 40 minutes... and I've got the bruised fingers and bump on the chin to prove it). Congrats to my teammates on a fun few weeks.
And today's Friend of the Day for March 7th... again, a birthday girl... Sara Barasch. Sara and I met in the fall of her freshman year of high school. I was a senior, veteran of the high school music and theater departments, President of the Actors' Honor Socity and V.P. of the Musicians' Honor Society. Sara was a quiet little freshman who auditioned for that fall's production of "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (which I chose... thank you, thank you...). We all immediately realized how much talent she had for a freshman, and knew that she was going to be a regular in shows for the next four years. So we bonded a lot through the shows and concerts of that year... she became the prodigy of myself and my fellow officers. Even after I left for college the following fall, Sara and I stayed close... we were each other's advice columnists about school, dating, and all that good stuff. She's in for a really bright future... so remember that name... chances are you might see or hear it again someday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY (#19) SARA!!!!!
Alrighty... now I'm all caught up... I'll see you all tomorrow.
'Night,
~ M.J.K. ~
