If Jenna and Meredith can do it, then so can I

Dec 23, 2004 18:11

Once again, I didn't start this game. I just jumped on for the ride.....

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
- drove to New Jersey
- attended a bachelor party
- got my own office (briefly)
- worked at a job fair representing my company
- interviewed and hired a new employee on my own (two actually)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't know if I've ever seriously made one. So why start now?

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My boss Ellen had a boy (Gene), and another co-worker Lisa had twin boys (Samuel & Josef)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
I don't think so...

5. What countries did you visit?
No foreign countries this year... going to two next year though, so check back in a year

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
Ummm... a six-figure salary? Doubt it though.

7. What dates from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
- 2/20/04 - coutside seats for URI vs. St. Bonaventure, met a few players
- 2/28/04 - URI vs. undefeated St. Joseph's on ESPN, met Dick Vitale, lost by 2
- 2/29/04 - Blue & White Ball with Rich, getting drunk & acting stupid (and he gave me some big news) :)
- 3/25/04 - Boston roadtrip with Rich
- 5/11/04 - Great Adventure roadtrip with Mary
- 6/3/04 - R.I.P. M&M
- 6/12/04 - Brendan's bachelor party... 'nuff said
- 8/13/04 - CHICAGO CUBS trip
- 8/30/04 - Projekt Revolution @ Jones Beach with Brian & Tiff
- 10/9/04 - Baltimore to visit Caryn

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Starting my Masters program (and maintaining a 3.9 GPA so far)

9. What was your biggest failure?
I guess my relationship with Meg... but no regrets...

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing worth reporting

11. What was the best thing you bought?
CUBS bleachers tickets

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
All my friends getting engaged - Rich, Vin, Chris, Jay, Mike, Jared, Diana, Pam, Feigin

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Marianne

14. Where did most of your money go?
Tuition payments and car payments

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Chicago

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
"The Reason" by Hoobastank

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
happier, no question
b) thinner or fatter?
about the same
c) richer or poorer?
poorer, damn tuition

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
For some reason, the summer seemed shorter than ever before in my life. I miss it especially now that we have shitty weather nearly every day. So I guess I wish I had done more outdoors-type stuff.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Contemplating failing relationships

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Hosting my extended family, burning off my mom's multi-course dinner by chasing Tyler throughout the house.

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Quite the opposite

23. How many one-night stands?
None really... a few random one-time hookups though, most not worth repeating

24. What was your favorite TV program?
ESPN's Dream Job (2nd Season)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really... plus I try to keep bad feelings to a minimum at the holidays

26. What was the best book you read?
The Ropes to Skip and the Ropes to Know. It was a required text for a class but it turned out to be really interesting and useful, career-wise.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Breaking Benjamin

28. What did you want and get?
Ummm... good grades?

29. What did you want and not get?
Well, about 2 weeks ago, I would've said a date for New Years... but hold the phone on that one.....

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
"Saw." For those of you unaware, I have a very twisted sense of humor.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Well, on my actual birthday, I drove 50 miles each way in the snow to take an accounting exam that took exactly 45 minutes to finish (but I got a 100). But the night before, at midnight, I got "Happy Birthday" sung to me by Mary, Jenna, and Sarah. Oh, and Mary gave me a kiss. With tongue. Naaaaaaaughty.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A bigger raise when I took my promotion in August.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
The same as every other year. I'm a t-shirt and jeans guy. When they make me boss, then maybe I'll change my style. Then maybe I'll be a t-shirt and khakis guy. Or maybe I'll get a tattoo.

34. What kept you sane?
My invaluable circle of friends. Mary (on days when she actually came to work) was a big help when things got overwhelming. Rich was always there for me with his patented "pizza and beer" therapy system. The boys at the office and our poker nights were a nice break. And all of the rest of you reading this... thanks for sticking with me.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well, meeting Dick Vitale was awesome. But if you mean like my "celebrity crush" of 2004, then you have to look no further than Heather Mitts (professional soccer player). Go to heathermitts.com and you'll understand what I'm talkin' about.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I was rooting for Kerry so that maybe we'd finally legalize stem cell research. You know, so my job would get a little easier. Oh, and so maybe we could find some cures for all the diseases that run in my family. Fucking Bush.

37. Who did you miss?
I think for the first time in a long time, I realized how much of an influence Caryn has been in my life over the last 10 years. Seeing her in October when I flew down to Baltimore was such a good time. And it seems like every time I get to see her, I get more and more excited about it. So I guess I miss her a lot.

38. Who was the best new person/people you met?
Probably Sarah and Ann Marie at the office. They keep me sane all day. And they're my new drinking pals.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
While traveling the road to where you want to be, take the time to enjoy where you are now. You won't get a second chance to be young.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I'll be just fine, pretending I'm not. I'm far from lonely and it's all that I've got."

In closing, I wish all of you reading this a very Happy Holiday season, and a safe and healthy New Year. To those who I plan to see in the next couple of weeks or so, I'm looking forward to it. To those of you who I may not have seen in a while, don't be strangers. Drop me a line anytime. You know where to find me.

Thank you all and take care!
~ M.J.K. ~
