I will write this entry entirely from Daniella's perspective. It concerns the hour from 1am to 2am January 29th.
After we had our joyride down Alex's friend Arpad’s street we came out on this road that passed a school. Three boys were kicking along one foot in the road the other on the lawn. They were walking really slow, and kinda aimlessly like they didn't know where they should be going. The really cute preppy boy stuck his thumb out like he was hitchhiking. But I was going too fast to stop.
"Aww they're such cute IHS students," I said. I could see them waving to us in the rearview mirror. "They're calling us back."
"Keep driving." Alex said.
I turned the car around on Saint Paul and started going back down the street.
The preppy boy had his hair gelled up, and was wearing an Ambercrombie jacket. He held a red cell-phone to his ear. He stared at us as we drove by like he wanted us to come back or something.
"They look like they need help." I said.
"They outnumber us." Alex sternly insisted.
"Don't you think we should stop and pick them up, it looked like they needed to get somewheres?"
"No, I think that would be a bad idea, picking up three strange boys in the middle of the night."
We drove down List Ave and saw a cop car; an old guy in army pants was hanging off the window deep in conversation.
I said, "I really wanna tell that cop what happened."
"Yes, that's a good idea. That's the only way you can help those boys."
So we stopped and tried to explain where the boys where. I said that they looked like they were troublemakers’ cause they were walking in the middle of the street and that they looked like they needed help cause they were hitchhiking. They're just walking contradictions. The cop seemed really muddled, Alex says I shoulda offered him my coffee, he didn't really seem to understand what we were talking about and he definitely didn’t know where we meant. Instead of asking us more question he just drove away.
The old guy said, "That sounds like our boys." and walked back into his house. The cop drove off. Later we passed him, he had a search light out and was determinedly going in the wrong direction.
we drove away down lake ave and making animal noises. I made monkey noises, and sheep noises, Alex had the cats meow down.
