RELATIONSHIPS
Katsura Kotarou
Non-Romantic Partner
"It's not Zura, it's Katsura."Though it is not immediately apparent, Katsura and Gintoki go back. A long way back. There is little that one does not know about the other, and despite all of their bickering, punching, and death threats, they each provide a sense of comfort and familiarity to one another in such a strange new world. Good luck hearing it straight from any one of them though.
Though Gintoki may constantly complain about it, he cannot see himself finding another Meister unless it was temporary. Gintoki is foremost, a man of cliche heroics, and thus prone to handling unsavoury situations by himself and keeping others out of harm's way. Death City has introduced to him a new, and absolutely compulsory method of fighting. Having Katsura as his Meister is beneficial not only because the two border on murderously close (literally murderously), Gintoki knows and understands the way Katsura fights, and a simple shove is cerrtainly not going to get by him. With this, he is able to relax, even if only a little.
Oh and all of the above becomes irrelevant if Ichigo comes to Death City. Yes, that's right. Kurosaki Fucking Ichigo.
Takasugi Shinsuke
Comrade"Kiheitai! Follow my lead!"Though relieving it may have been that the Takasugi brought to Death City was not the one Katsura and Gintoki sought to cut down on sight, it was stressing nonetheless to approach him, for all parties involved. Katsura and Takasugi worked themselves to the brink of exhaustion, while Gintoki simply remained seclusive and broody. Many talks were had between the three, and just as many cases of avoidance occurred before camarderie pulled through at last. It was a long road, but there was no denying the childhood they spent together with the teacher they each loved.
Now, relations are steady and Gintoki sees Takasugi as something of a younger brother. Protective isn't quite the word Gintoki would use to describe his general feelings about Takasugi, if only because the other is fully capable of protective himself. On the battlefield at least. There is still that sense of vulnerability that hovers over his younger comrade, and Gintoki intends to balance that weakness out. Just like the way they used to when they were kids.
Just like an unconventional game of rock-paper-scissors.
Okita Sougo
Tax Revenue Robber/Sadist Punk/Yagami Seichirou-kun
"That's because I was a good guy to begin with."They're not friends, they'll never be friends. Unless they're plotting Hijikata's death, then yeah, I guess they get along.
Really though, there is a twisted, incredibly unconventional friendship happening between Sougo and Gintoki, and perhaps sadism is the basis of such an odd relationship. One of course, is by far much more of a sadist than the other. You get one guess as to which that is. Go on. It's really easy. I promise. 8|
Sougo, being the type of person he is, appears to be having a rather rough time fitting in at Death City. Where he once had authority as a top-ranked officer, he is told by regular citizens and the Watch alike that he has no jurisdiction, and terrorists he's devoted his career to catching are being allowed to live as regular citizens. He has very little hope of finding a permanent partner, and so it appears he too is looking to stand by with someone familiar. Gintoki doesn't blame him, really.
