jared and i got our bikes monday, and they are really awesome. other than the fact that the rear reflector was broken off BOTH of them, everything else is great. jared put them together monday night, but we didn't get to ride them because it was dark and rainy out. i didn't get home monday until 9:30 because of my library automation class, and i didn't get home last night until 8:30 because of the library careers night i went to. and tonight, i won't get home until 8:30 because of work. tomorrow i should be home by 7, though, and hopefully jared and i can actually go out and ride our bikes.
i thought that by going to the library careers night yesterday that i'd feel more excited about job hunting. not so. i felt awful after i came home... not many libraries were hiring, and the ones that were had very specific jobs that i didn't qualify for. (sorry, i don't speak arabic.) i was really hoping to hear something back from ohio university about the engineering librarian job they had open, but when i stopped at their booth, the hr lady that was there made it seem like she knew i wasn't going to get called. maybe that's just me being paranoid, but she did say that not many people applied for that position and that they were already starting to call people for it. then i visited the ohio state booth, where the conversation went something like this:
library director: so, what kind of librarianship are you interested in?
me: i want to work in a science library - i have a background in physics.
library director: really? you have a bachelor's?
me: yes.
library director: do you have a master's?
me: no.
library director: oh. *begins to talk about how he needs specialized people*
isn't that just peachy. the one good thing that happened was that a lady was there from a head-hunting agency and that she was looking for someone with a science or chemistry background. my companions (mary and jiwon) laughed and pointed at me. she took my resume (the only one i was able to give out) and mentioned that she too had attended miami university, and that she had dinner with someone from cml last night and they mentioned that there was a girl working at the franklinton branch getting her mls with a physics degree. she was like, that must be you! a little frightening that she already knew about me before i even met her, but i guess that's good? i have no idea what the job is that she's searching for candidates for, but she said she'd call me early next week with more details.
i'm starting to get panicky about this, and that's not good. last month i felt like i had forever to find a job, and now i feel like graduation is right around the corner, and i have nothing to show for it. i know i shouldn't worry so much, but that's what i do best.
i could write more, but this post is long enough. thanks for reading this far, if you did. ha
