I am in mad, deep, cavernous, OCD, heart-crushing love with Ben Folds' music. I have been a fan since my best friend/college roommate introduced me to Ben Folds Five my sophomore year. But I've been rediscovering him. I am impressed and addicted. His songs make me remember. They make me feel. They make me feel the very beginning ballpoint of a teardrop forming behind my heart, about to release lines of ink on a page, dots and flags on fiveline staff. There is honesty in his music that isn't afraid to be kitschy and schmalzy if that's what he feels. He doesn't try so hard to be cool that it limits where the piano wants to go. If it starts to sound like something from a highschool musical or a showtune, its alright; the stinging lyrics that accompany the musical sweets make for an addictive tang- like mexican limesalt. It strains you, but you can't quit licking it.
