I. Should. Be. Asleep! But I can't!!! I had to find it! Now, I will start a new tradition for myself and comment on the new "Torchwood: Miracle Day".
I think I might have been expecting a bit too much for a first episode; the same thing happened when I first watched "Doctor Who"; I was left feeling 'meh,' but IT WAS SO WORTH IT.
I was gleeful so I came home to look for it online since I thought I wouldn't be able to watch it 'cause dad cancelled all our good channels (HBO, Starz, and the like) a few weeks ago. Then, out of simple curiosity, I did a search and found it on Channel 101 (I don't know what it is, but it's via DirectTV). Now, it will be recording in case I miss it at 6:00PM tonight. Yes, I need to watch it on our plasma, much as I love my laptop.
Initial Reaction:
Why, oh why couldn't Oswald have been the last death?!?!?! I'm not saying I condone the death penalty; seriously, who are we to decide who lives and who dies, NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY DESERVE IT!!! (Like Oswald.)
Wonders: Who was the weepy lady with the short hair? His wife? Lady, if it was, no matter how much you may have loved the man, he RAPED AND MURDERED A 12-YEAR-OLD!!!
I wanted to slap Rex! He was talking about a coworker whose wife had a disease ("Lukemia or something," he said) and he's grinning. Esther asked about Torchwood first, then she hears him say this, and then she asks about Torchwood again? What? Not even a, "Oh really? How sad," or some other sympathetic reaction. I guess she really had her head in the game.
So, we get a CIA agent who's happy about a coworker's wife having a terminal illness, a female coworker who can't stop talking about Torchwood, suddenly all digital data from Torchwood goes cahoot! I was like, "Wha? Why did that data still exist?!" Hmm, Rex, now you're at Death's door and you're panicking.
Aw, Esther does seem to care about Rex a lot. I don't think they're a couple and I honestly hope they don't become one without some very good development, but it has potential (although I would prefer they remain good friends). I felt bad for Esther having to go through all those damn boxes. Eek! 456! *Shudders*
Ah! I don't think the spiky/messy thing Jack's got going on is a favorable look. Sorry hon! Leave the sort-of spiky/totally messy-on-purpose look to the Doctor! As Rose says, he's got really great hair; he can pull it off...
Okay, back to it. A Doctor mentions Royal Hope (?) from season 3! I don't think she contacted Dr. Martha Smith-Jones, since she was last seen working (freelancing?) with one Mr. Mickey Smith-Jones! Still, awesome!
Gwen, Gwen, Gwen!!! Aw, poor Gwen. Rhys, too. Aww!!! Baby!!! Gwen with a gun? *Gush; remembers Jack teaching Gwen how to use various ones* I gushed at Rhys getting a rifle too; he loves his girls so! *Suspicious of tourist couple* Hmm, I don't remember Gwen having so many freckles...?
BOOM! Hah, it was so Jack there and at first I was confused as to why the hell he was even there, but it was explained, so I'm glad. At the same time, not the same Jack we all know and love; this is a very, much more saddened Jack. He totally broke my heart when he was talking to Esther. Retcon hasn't been forgotten, apparently. One thing that always bothered me about Jack using it so liberally was...wouldn't he have issues with this, having two years of his memories gone?! Or did this only count in "Doctor Who"? Am trying to remember if Jack heals quickly or if he has to die first, then come back unscathed...
Ah! At first, I thought Jack had flashed psychic paper! Damn, I was all like, "Look, look, it looks like a billfold with psychic paper!" Aw, he used Owen's name. I miss him and Tosh so much... Oh, ew on the Charcoal bomber, kind of cool, but ew. I wondered that too! The beheading. Apparently not... I feel bad for Dr. Vera Juarez. She totally shows that she became a doctor for the right reasons; like Martha! Will love to see a strong, female doctor without the Doctor around.
Andy! Ha, I wonder if he's still jealous of Rhys. He should be! He's got a great gal! No, really, I hope he's found/he finds someone. I know Rhys is worried, but I didn't really like him shouting at Gwen; it reminded me as to why I disliked him so much at the beginning. I also don't like Gwen's reaction to thinking about her baby living forever. She knows what it's done to Jack! I understand her backing down, though; she really thinks she's the only one left on Earth as she and Jack have yet to be reunited.
Rex is persistent. Then he's off to the U.K. You have to pay to go to Wales through the bridge? Really? Good to know! Hahaha, an American (being stereotypical here - I am from the U.S. and I'm sure it'd happen to anyone, but...) would complain about wasting money. XD What can we say? The economy sucks right now; badly.
"CIA!"
"Yeah? So what?" - I <3 Gwen so, so much!
Oh, those 'knots' were obviously weak. Fail Rhys, fail. Hahaha, Gwen grabs a toy (?) for baby while being shot at. Is it wrong that I totally laughed my butt off as Gwen shot at the helicopter dudes and the baby was smiling?
Jack, Jack, Jack!!! I thought it had been him who took Rex's phone. It's like, "Jack is too invested in Gwen's safety for some at-Death's-door CIA agent to find her so easily. Jack and Gwen are reunited!!!
"I got a gift for you in the back." Big, ol' torpedo gun. Oh Jack, you really know how to charm a girl, don'tcha? Of course he does! Rex was all shooting and then Gwen comes up and is all, 'Let me show you how it's really done.' *Sighs* <3
I feel bad for the poor baby being in the middle of all that.
Gwen's a little too into Torchwood being resurrected, isn't she? Kind of parallels her with Rose wanting to return to the Doctor. Just a little, though. I just love them both so much; they're both strong, kind, kick-ass, compassionate women.
So, it is bad (?) news that Jack's not healing! Oh man, oh man. So...what?! o.O Jack's mortal now? So...like, everyone on Earth won't die now, but Jack can? Eek! I don't want to test that! What if he forgets and tries to protect someone and ends up dead? Or like everyone else? He's human, as opposed to...? I mean, I always considered him human, just, you know, kind of indestructible in the sense that he-can-die-but-comes-back-physically-well-but-emotionally-scarred. Really, how many times can you die before it gets to you?
Oh, oh! Rex was one up them!
Okay, SO NOT LIKING ALL THESE PEOPLE AIMING GUNS WHEN THERE'S A BABY IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS!!! *Arg*
Torchwood is coming to America!
Random note: I didn't know they were filming in L.A. until later and one of the locations was the Los Angeles City Hall. The bus I used to take to school has a stop there and once there was some filming going on when I had decided to take a bus that drops me off there rather than a previous stop to catch the bus that took me straight to school. I don't know if it was them, but if it was... THANKS A LOT; I ENDED UP BEING SUPER, SUPER LATE TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THE BUSES WOULD RANDOMLY STOP A BLOCK AWAY OR STRAIGHT THERE. Some security dude was all like, "They don't seem to be stopping here, but over there." I walked the block and two bloody buses stopped in front of City Hall. I ended up having to walk all the way to Union Station, which was quite a few blocks away. That was so not my day. If it was them and I had met Mademoiselle Myles and Monsieur Barrowman on the other hand... School, what school? XP
Overall, I think it was a good episode for merely introducing new characters. I can't wait to see how they develop and evolve over time.
Welps! I think that's that. Time to sleep!
Good night,
~*Eli
