I got the dipper!!
We went to Padley Gorge to try to find one. We took Summer, who loved jumping around on the rocks and swimming in the stream. It's a lovely place, and we were the only ones there until we got to the moor at the other side of the wood.
We were walking for maybe an hour and a half (including stops for taking photos) and all we saw was a rather irate-looking wren with a beakful of food making a lot of noise. We were just thinking about turning back, but decided to walk a bit further. I'm glad we did, there were some cute juve robins just getting the red feathers through, and Michael spotted several grey wagtails (lovely birds) on the rocks in the stream. Just as he'd pointed them out I saw a larger brown bird with its tail sticking up on a rock next to them - I got it in the binoculars and sure enough, it was a dipper - I was very pleased with myself! Michael enjoyed taking pictures of the water and I watched the wagtails for a while, they wander around snapping up insects and wagging their tails up and down, very cute.
All in all it was a lovely morning, we had a snack when we got back to the car as we were starving, then came home. Trouble is I don't feel like doing anything now! I feel like a nap...
