It’s graduation day and he feels like crying.

Just seconds ago, he was basking in the cheery, loud atmosphere of everyone celebrating the end of their university days, of each person leaving with a degree that they had all worked so hard for. He throws his graduation hat into the air just like everyone else, watching it rise into the air where many other hundreds had done the same. It was an awesome sight to remember, and his heart soared as he too felt proud of himself for coming this far. It hadn’t been easy, not at all. Not when he had to deal with the divorce of his parents, the lost of his father’s job, the struggle of working to pay for his school fees as well as his siblings’, and most of all, for having fallen in love with his roommate Yunho. All of that during the period of these 3 years.

He transfixed his attention to Yunho, who was being surrounded by many others who were giving him hi-fives and pulling him into tight, brotherly hugs. Of course, there was the fair share of girls who were begging for their chance at getting Yunho’s attention to sign their graduation books. Yunho always owned everybody else’s attention, and it was not surprising at all, what with his good looks, charming smile, and an attitude that was pleasant and endearing.

Yunho was everything he wasn’t, and he just like everyone else, wanted a piece of Yunho. He did get Yunho’s concern, except that he believed it was all only because he was Yunho’s roommate. What if he wasn’t? He probably would have never caught Yunho’s attention, probably would never be Yunho’s friend, and he probably…wouldn’t have fallen as deeply as he had for the man.

Now that his university days were ending, it dawned upon his as he continued staring at the man he loved, that he probably would lose contact with Yunho, and might even not see him around ever again. He did not realize that he was already beginning to tear up until he felt someone brushing away some wetness across his cheek.

“Jae? Are you alright?” the clean-cut looking man asked gently, tucking a strand of stray hair behind Jaejoong’s ear as he finished rubbing away the remnants of tear stains on the porcelain-clear face.

“Oh, Siwon, I’m fine, it’s okay. Anyway, congrats too, we’ve all finally graduated” Jaejoong managed a weak smile as he tore his eyes away from Yunho, realizing that the other man would never look his way no matter how much he stared at him.

“Yeah! Aren’t you happy? Why are you crying, you!” Siwon patted his shoulder, giving him a playful nudge as he flashed him a sincere smile. Siwon was undoubtedly good looking, and was one of those that many girls eye-candied in the campus. It wasn’t unknown to everyone too that Siwon had admittedly taken an interest towards Jaejoong, except that the said man obviously already liked someone else. Siwon, on the other hand, never gave up.

“Nope, I was just thinking about certain stuffs. I’m just happy that everything’s come to a good close,” Jaejoong returned a smile again, this time genuinely. He felt some of his depression leave him momentarily as he conversed with the other. Siwon always managed to cheer him up no matter how he felt. He had known about Siwon’s feelings, but told him that it wasn’t possible between them; it was better that they remained as good friends.

“Yah! People don’t usually cry when they’re happy, unless it’s a girl! C’mon, be a man you!” he pinched Jaejoong’s cheeks playfully, and in retort Jaejoong started tackling him on the spot. They started giggling away uncontrollably, their graduation hats left stranded at the sides. Jaejoong started screaming away in the midst of his laughs as the stronger man easily pinned his arms and stopped him from moving. Before he realized it, Siwon had pulled him into a tight embrace, leaving the both of them frozen while panting heavily.

Jaejoong’s arms went slack even though they instinctively returned the embrace as he felt Siwon hugging him even closer. As his eyes enlarged when he felt the other man’s breath teasing his ear, he spotted someone staring at him from afar.

Yunho.

And he didn’t look exactly happy…what? Stop staring at me Yunho I don’t know what’s happening to me right now.

Unknowingly to Jaejoong, Yunho had watched the exchanges between the two of them since Siwon approached Jaejoong. Damn, Yunho had thought to himself, he had gotten to Jaejoong before I did. Jaejoong still doesn’t know that I like him, does he?

Yunho had begun to walk towards the two who were locked intimately in a not-so-simple embrace. Coughing away in a deliberately awkward manner, he tapped Siwon on the shoulder.

“Uh Siwon? Mind if I get a word with Jaejoong?” Yunho managed in the friendliest tone he could muster even though his insides were dying to rip the other man away from Jaejoong.

All this while, Jaejoong stood confused. Was that a tinge of jealousy he had seen in Yunho’s eyes? No way, his roommate couldn’t like him ever. It wasn’t possible. His love had been one-sided right from the start.

Jaejoong and Yunho were now seated at the fountain behind the main parade square, away from the buzz and everyone else. The two kept silent, not knowing what to say after the incident just now. Jaejoong was waiting for Yunho to say something, while Yunho was torn between how he should start.

“So…uh..yes, Jae. Congratulations? We’ve all finally graduated!” Yunho stuttered and tried to strike a good start in their conversation before he could get to his point. He decided that it was now or never; he was going to confess to Jaejoong.

“Yes, congratulations too. I bet your friends are all so happy for you! Look at how the girls were literally drooling and clapping for you,” Jaejoong’s heart was pumping rapidly like how it always did whenever he was around Yunho. Usually he’d be the one who stuttered, but his bitterness at the scene of the girls clamoring around Yunho got the better of him.

“Oh, uh, haha, yes. They just wanted me to sign their books. So, uh, are you and Siwon together?” Yunho turned slightly as his back continued facing Jaejoong’s back; they hadn’t been able to look at each other from the start. He decided he was not going to beat around the bush and jump straight to the point.

“What? No! Where did you get the idea from?” Jaejoong almost choked when he heard those words. Where did Yunho get the idea from, and why was he even interested in this? Damnit, Yunho already had many other girls (even guys) dying for him, why would he even be concerned with this?

Also, why the hell was he asking him this sort of question when it was graduation day? Surely they had better things to talk about, like how they’d been there for each other through the promotional exams, how they’d spent time cooking up recipes together, and how they could be nostalgic and miss each other when in a few days’ time they’d probably leave each others’ lives forever….Jaejoong’s heart cringed again at that thought.

“But you two were hugging together like you were! Are you lying, Jaejoong?” Yunho raised his voice a little higher, showing that he was intrigued but he definitely wasn’t pissed at the least. He turned around fully and Jaejoong naturally turned too in response.

Bad idea, both thought. Their hearts skipped beats, unknowingly to each other.

“No Yunho, why would I lie to you? Besides, I already like someone else.” Jaejoong was in too much of a rush to explain himself that the words left his mouth before he could stop them. A crimson red blush picked at his facial features and he couldn’t help it.

“You…like someone else? Who?” Yunho was relieved to think it wasn’t Siwon because if it was, he was going to have some strong competition. Then again, he had no idea who else it could be; he didn’t even know who he could be jealous of now. His interest in getting it out from Jaejoong grew even more piqued.

“Why are you asking me this Yunho? I thought you’d talk to me about other stuffs, like you know, reminiscing the days we had together. I’m really going to miss you, you know.” Jaejoong was angry, and his tone was harsh even though the last few words he said really tugged at Yunho’s heart strings.

With that, he pulled Jaejoong into his arms in a swift move, nesting Jaejoong’s head in his chest while his face nuzzled into Jaejoong’s hair. “I’m gonna miss you too, Jae. Lots.”

Jaejoong was shocked. Yes, he did have more than a couple of more-than-friends hugs with Yunho, but that was all they had. Yunho had never been this affectionate with him before. Could it be…? He was confused. What was going on with Yunho?

“I…I…Yunho,” Jaejoong’s voice turned soft again as his steeliness melted within Yunho’s embracing. He was then interrupted by the other.

“Jae. Listen to me first okay? I’m afraid I won’t have the courage to say this again if I don’t do it now.”

Jaejoong’s heart stopped for the 3rd time in that hour. Just what was Yunho trying to tell him?

“Joongie, I don’t know who it is that you like…but I have to tell you that I’ve loved you for a very long time now. I never told it to you because I knew you had to concentrate on your studies to get good grades; you couldn’t ever let your family down. You told me your problems, and knowing how much was weighing on you, I couldn’t possibly distract you with something else. What if you would never like me back? Then I’d only be adding to your frustrations. It kills me to know we won’t be staying in the same room again. Your face isn’t going to be the first I get to see when I wake up next time... I’m gonna miss you so much, really.

Jaejoong could only stone. Was he dreaming?

“Jae? Can you uh…say something?” Yunho pulled back to look into Jaejoong’s eyes, trying to search for some kind of response within those orbs he wished he could wake up to everyday. He rubbed his hair in embarrassment, wondering what Jaejoong was thinking in that silence he was being responded with.

Jaejoong started tearing up, which of course shocked Yunho. He wasn’t expecting this kind of response from Jaejoong. What did his crying mean?

“Pabo. You…you’re the one I like, Yun.” Jaejoong confessed, crying and blushing simultaneously.

“What?!” Yunho stood up, taking a step back as if he had just heard the most unbelievable thing in the world. Actually, it was indeed unbelievable. To him, at least. Realising that his reaction was too great, he approached Jaejoong again and held his shoulders tightly but endearingly.

“Jae, is it true?”

“Yes…I’ve loved you for a very long time now. I thought I’d never be able to tell you.”

“Jaejaejae, I love you so much. I can’t believe this is happening. I’ve dreamt of this countless of times,”

Yunho excitedly gave Jaejoong a light peck on the lips, not knowing the kind of effect he had over Jaejoong. It was their first kiss!

“Yay! From this day onwards, Jae, Yunho shall belong to Jaejoong & Jaejoong shall belong to me!” Yunho kissed Jaejoong on the lips again, not letting him go easily this time. He slowly savoured the taste of Jaejoong, his Jaejoong. Jaejoong too, relished in the feeling of being held by Yunho, his Yunho.

It was graduation day, and he felt like crying. This happiness Jaejoong felt was the greatest he’d ever felt in these 3 years.

So there, I hope you liked it. Spent quite a bit of time on it cos I was lacking some sort of a feeling initially. Hope it was fine? :))
