Best Idea EVAR!

This is so very not directed on or for anyone in specific, but damn, what a good idea.

"I'd like to date/have sex with/marry/make a child with you"
"...Do you have references?"

Obviously Short on Sleep

Wow, and people thought I was random...

You personally.. not quite so much, but I think there might be someone in your outer fringes with whom I might have at least one of those thoughts about. :)

Random? Perhaps.
I found the quote in regards to a thread on GTA4 and some kids in Nassau. I laughed hard enough to disturb the playing of Rock Band.

And then the wisdom of at least asking for references for a potential partner for just about anything (road trip passenger, theological debate, electrical theory) made me lose it entirely. *grins*

I doubt such a thing would really take off as a concept, but ya gotta admit, it's not a bad idea...;)

It so very was.

And there's a recently-existent hope that it'll help someone out there from getting burnt...:)

Yep. It helps. Like any interview/selection process, it doesn't guarantee success, but it can weed out some of the obvious noncompatibles.

I can hear some people screaming (literally or figuratively, with or without reason) about rights to privacy and personal business.

...
....
.....

Which I guess would kind of eliminate them from my stated examples, wouldn't it?

Still. I may make a website for the SPECIFIC REASON of giving/checking references like this...;)

I'll make millions!

I have absolutely checked references on potential SOs and playmates in the past. In one case, that's why it never proceeded past flirting -- if not one, but two kink-aware people tell me "he has a reputation for being abusive", I'm not going there. In another, I should've given the references more weight than I did; the negatives were not that negative, and the man in question was, at the time, working on his issues, or giving the appearance thereof. Alas, it did not last, and he's now the only ex I prefer not to speak to. (I wouldn't ignore him if we were at the same con, but I wouldn't initiate contact, either.)
