Something weird's going on with my nose.
For the last two days I have been smelling this faint smell of cigarettes in the air, at home and at work. Which is odd, because a. I don't smoke, and b. no one in my lab group smokes (as far as I know). Although to be fair, a. one of my neighbours might be smoking out of their windows, and b. someone else on my floor might be a smoker (I know of at least one). But for my 7 years working in this building, I have never had this problem, especially not in the lab area. The office area is also smoke-alarmed and air-conditioned, so there is no reason why the smell would persist all day. And at home, even if the smell comes from another unit, it really shouldn't penetrate my rooms that much (to be fair, I keep all of my windows open).
The smell isn't so strong that it gives me a headache (happens last time I was in a smoke-allowed hotel room), but it is non-stop and is very very distracting. It makes me feel like I'm perpetually in a room with someone who's just had a smoke, and it is not a pleasant smell. I asked a girl in my lab whether she could also smelled it as well, but she seemed confused by it (which is fair enough, and no one else seems particularly bothered). I'd say that there's something wrong with my nose, but for the fact that the smell is not present all 24/7. Case in point: my bedroom's ok. Outdoor's also ok, when I am walking outside. So if there's an issue with my olfactory, it is kind of habitually temporal.
Or maybe it's not physiological and it's all in my head. Who knows? Haven't heard this as a symptom for something else before. Maybe it'll go in a couple days (hopefully).
I just kind of needed to say it all out loud (sort of), because it's really bugging me otherwise.
