OH...MY...GOSH!!!

Apr 16, 2007 13:07

Oh dear! It's horrible! Horrible! 22 dead at VA Tech (this is comfirmed by the Tech President)! Two shooters shot around 40 people; at least 20 were killed and another 21 were injured. The school is in lockdown, students are locked in their dorms while some are being taken out of their classes.

My sister first heard about it and told my mom while I was in the bookstore (I think). There are a lot of people who lived here that go to Tech. My sister has a ton of friends and classmates there. I have no idea if any classmate I know still goes there, they may have graduated, but still...that doesn't mean I don't know anyone there.

This is awful! All the schools in the county are in lockdown (I think). I just found out that my college (Radford) is not in lockdown. However, Tech is closed tomorrow, as people would expect. My sister told me there had been bomb threats earlier.

Everything seems to be over right now: one shooter has been killed while another is in custody. So the danger has passed. Now, I'm getting mixed signals; my sister said there were two shooters, but I'm getting from CNN and Fox that there is only one. So maybe the time gap confused people? However, there is no doubt that if the gunman is dead if there is only one.

According to what I've gathered, the shooting happened at Norris Hall (my sister knows someone in the engineering department!) and another hall, West Ambler Johnston Hall, a dorm.

This is the worst shooting ever on a college campus. Everyone, keep the people in your thoughts. A lot of people and families are in need of our thoughts. :(

Edit: Okay, getting my facts straight and corrected some of my mistakes. Norris is the enigneering hall and Ambler is the dorm. It's not the other way around. Forgive my lack of knowledge of the VT campus.

Edit 2: According to my dad, he has talked to my former band teacher who found out that everyone who goes to VT that lives in this area are safe! There's only one exception and they aren't sure where she has been, but she's not an engineering student and my dad doesn't seem that worried so I'm assuming that she doesn't live in the dorms. So if that's all right, then thank goodness! *sighs in relief* My heart goes out to the other families who were not so lucky. :(
