Today is Wednesday, yes? Even looking at the date and time on my computer clock, I still feel like I'm floating through this weird time warp tunnel. Being away from the computer and basically off line for more than a week is quite discombobulating. What an amazing time at RWA Nationals in DC, though! Some of it was spectacular! Some of it sucked hind tit (Can you say #marriottfail?)
I'm unpacked (clothes, at least) and the laundry is done. Fuzzy critters have been loved and reassured they are still loved. Same for
nere_ayo and BB. I finished the edit of FAERIE FIRE and shipped it back to Ms. Editor. She's added it to her stack. I hope to hear back on a contract by the end of August. Right before leaving for Nationals, I heard from Ms. Acquiring Editor for the Black Rose Line. She requested a full so HAWK was sent off to her right before I left. Again, end of August is the suspense date.
In the meantime, I really need to get SHADOW DANCE polished and hopefully SEASON OF THE WITCH, but....BUT...(notice the big but?) I have a new project that might just be leading edge in the romance genre and I'd love to have at least a rough draft down and ready to "shop" when I go to the Writers for New Orleans Conference in September, and/or to mention in passing to the two agents to which I have a referral/invite from. This is the one time I wish I was a "name" author. I really think this is a fun and cutting edge novel, even though I still have lots of holes in the plot and I don't know a blasted thing (well...bloody little anyway) about the time period this novel is set in. I can't decide whether to research first and then write, or simply write, getting the story down but glossing over the details until the second draft. Decisions, decisions! At the very least, it will be my NaNoWriMo novel this year.
Quick run-down of RWA Nationals. OMG! SQUEE! FANGIRL! Learned a lot, met some awesome people, got treated like one of the cool kids, hated the hotel. Tomorrow on Penumbra, I'll be posting a travelogue as written by G. It's pretty entertaining. In the meantime, I'm trying to get focused, caught up on real life, and get back into the writing groove. If nothing else, the week in DC surrounded by all those romance writers has taught me that this is what I really want to do!
