Merlin stood to the side of the hall in an alcove. Arthur had just been named Crown Prince of Camelot.

Everyone had eyes for Arthur, and he knew it. Merlin had kept his head down, so as not to ruin the night, only pausing to talk to Arthur when he required his goblet re-filling.
Arthur had noticed and made a mental note to let Merlin know how not-useless at formal occasions he was later, however…

Every time Merlin leaned over the prince he brushed his lips every so lightly against Arthur’s ear lobe. The prince had a hard time resisting turning his head to kiss Merlin roughly as he purred what he would be doing to the crown prince that evening. Arthur was gripping the arms of the chair and sweating profusely imagining what Merlin would be doing to him later as Merlin whispered in his ear when Uther noticed and leaned over as Merlin was still whispering.
“Do you have an ailment?” He questioned. Arthur’s eyes were closed and jumped a little when he heard his father’s voice. Merlin finished filling Arthur’s goblet and hurried away.
“No, why do you ask?” Arthur answered flushing slightly and sitting upright. He’d only just realised he’d slid down as Merlin was purring. He really was the worlds worst. Damn! He was too obvious! Arthur reprimanded himself for not having better self control. He gave Merlin a sly look, only to find Merlin biting his lip in a seductive way, looking through Arthur’s soul, his eyes glittering. Merlin loved teasing Arthur like this, it was almost as if he could make Arthur come without laying a finger on him, almost like magic…

“You’re breathing heavily and you’re sweating a little. Are you sure nothing ails you?”
“Father I’m fine” Arthur replied.
“If you say so, Prince Arthur” Uther smiled with pride as he said the last two words.
“I’m fine, My lord” Arthur smiled back at him.
“My son, Crown Prince of Camelot” he beamed. “Your mother would have been so happy to see what has become of you.”
“I miss her, Father” Arthur studied the kings face. Battle and weather worn, the lines of his face told many tales.
“Oh, Arthur, so do I” Uther looked thoughtful for a second before his face dropped ever so slightly. “She would have been proud of you, son.” Uther smiled again. Arthur returned the smile to his father and allowed his eyes travel to see where Merlin had gotten. He was busy tending to another guest, but their eyes were locked in an unspoken connection. Merlin smiled suggestively and went to fetch more wine. Arthur smiled to himself. He knew Merlin was proud of him and couldn’t wait for them to be alone later.

Merlin was on his way back from the kitchens when he saw Giaus beckoning to him. Merlin, of course followed him around to a secluded corridor. “Does he know?” Giaus asked. Merlin nodded.
“He showed me earlier.” Merlin replied.
“He seems to be coping with it ever so well.”
“That’s what it looks like, although I’m not sure. What if Nimueh wanted this to happen? After all, it’s the holder of magic that decides what to do with it. Evil or good, that sort of thing.”
Giaus looked impressed.
“That’s very wise of you, Merlin. What’s bought this on?”
“Just been thinking” Merlin shrugged.
Giaus smiled to himself. Maybe Merlin wasn’t a total fool after all.
“Anyway, I better get back to the feast, I can’t have the crown prince yell at me now, can I?” Merlin said, smiling and raising his eyebrows and taking his leave.
Giaus looked after Merlin. He knew Arthur would eventually have to find out about the origin of his magic. He knew this day would come. Sighing heavily he turned and joined the reception that always followed the feasts.

Ladies had been flirting with Arthur all night. Merlin hadn’t forgotten and had actually stifled a smile as he saw the reaction on Arthur’s face. Merlin knew full well this was Arthur’s idea of pure hell. Surrounded by Ladies from all over, vying for his attention. Merlin caught Arthur’s eye a few times during the night and gave him a seductive smile. Arthur felt this was most unfair because Merlin knew his power over him and he could feel himself stiffening. Twice he made faces at Merlin who only laughed and waved. He’d pay later. For now, it was his duty to keep all these women entertained. He could barely walk three paces without being mobbed again.
Merlin thought this was the best night of his life! Arthur being caught left right and centre by all those women and hating every minute of it!

“You’re happy tonight,” Smiled Gwen, coming to his side. “What’s got into you?!”
“Oh, I see, now I can’t be in a good mood?!” He giggled as he answered her. Smiling she nudged him in the side. “Not getting jealous are we?”
“Why should I be jealous? Are you?” Merlin replied nodding in Morgana’s direction. “Why should I be?” Gwen laughed. They understood each other perfectly. They were each courting with the people they were serving. Gwen was Merlin’s best friend and shared everything with each other. “You have fun tonight, I think it’s time I saved Morgana from all these men!” Gwen headed off in her Lady’s direction.

Merlin should really do the same for Arthur but he was having too much of a good time. Smiling he headed toward Arthur.
