That's horrible. I'm doing a film course too, so I know how gut wrenching these set backs can be. I have my fingers crossed with LUCK for you.
"so this isn't an independent thing, otherwise I would have taken a Producer on board long ago"
Wait, so it is independent? Or... not? Was this a large-ish crew or just a small one of 4-6 people?
Did you have a separate sound person on board to do sound recording or was it all in camera? You should always try and get at least one person doing sound in case the in camera sound does fuck up (which it usually does). If this is only the first half of your shoot, try and book a DAT or a PMD for the next half just in case.
I hope the rest of it goes SUPER smoothly to make up for these first few setbacks. GOOD LUCK!
Sorry, bad choice of wording - when I said 'this isn't an independent thing', I meant that it was already laid out as part of the major project requirement that I had to do the writing/directing/producing all on my own. This wasn't my choice; if I had a choice, I would have taken a separate Writer to do the screenplay and yet another person to be my Producer. I have a medium-sized crew; not small, not large.
Yep, I had a separate sound person to do the location sound recording. XD Now that I'm at Master's level of study (and it was never easy getting there), I can't shoot my films at a Bachelor's level. That way I won't learn anything and my skills won't get any higher, lol.
You're doing a film course too? Oooh, which one? Where?
HAHA, not as talented as I want to be because there are some people there who are so hardcore about their specialties, and I like doing well at everything.
