I was actually quite surprised that I wasn't more disappointed with the epilogue. I tend to get very annoyed when I don't get what I feel is the appropriate payoff at the end of spending a large chunk of time on something. Though I've already said I wished she'd write a follow-up, which pretty much denotes not enough ending. I think there was essentially a chapter or chapters missing between the final chapter and the epilogue. She did a very good job after Dumbledore's death. I'm sad that didn't follow through here.
My biggest disappointment was in 1) her handling of death (with the exception of 1 character) -- JK needs to go to the Peter Jackson school and 2) a complete disregard for one of her major themes until the very last portion of the book (and then only when there were no other options left)
And, the fact that I kept going... "and could anything else POSSIBLY go wrong" might be a bad thing as well ;)
There were good things too... don't let me get too negative, but I don't want to talk about them because that'll give away too much.
Yeah, I had big issues with the deaths save that one. They didn't have the gravitas I thought they deserved and I think a lot of that is because there was no real "aftermath"...it was just like they were written out. Not quite as bad as a Wash-like death, but pretty close.
As far as anything else going wrong, I was picking up on a huge betrayal coming that never did, so I was quite glad to be wrong on that score. But I'd better shut up now...I'm getting dangerously close to being spoilery.
